Alex

Despite being exhausted from last night's journey back from Emily's wedding, Alex went into the office early. He couldn't quite understand it, but he had this urge to see Olivia as soon as possible. His eyes instinctively scanned the room, searching for Olivia, only to find her workstation unoccupied.

Concern etched his features as he approached Daniel's desk. "Hey, Daniel. Have you seen Olivia?"

Daniel glanced up from his computer, noting the worry etched on Alex's face. "She had to leave urgently yesterday, Alex. There was a family emergency. Her mom's in the hospital."

His heart sank at the news, a rush of worry flooding his thoughts. "Is she okay?"

Daniel shook his head. "I'm not sure. Olivia had to rush to be with her. She didn't specify much, but it seemed serious."

The gravity of the situation hit Alex. He felt a pang of regret for not being there for Olivia when she needed someone, especially after the string of thoughts that had plagued his mind during Emily's wedding.

"I need to check on her," Alex muttered, a sense of urgency propelling him.

"Do you know which hospital?" Alex asked, already reaching for his phone, his fingers tapping the screen in haste.

Daniel nodded. "St. Mary's, I believe."

Alex didn't waste a second, dialing the hospital's number to inquire about Olivia's mother. He hoped for some news, some assurance that Olivia and her family were alright.

As he hung up the call, a sense of helplessness overwhelmed him. There wasn't much information to gather without Olivia's consent. He glanced at his phone, contemplating whether to message her. But he held back, not wanting to intrude during such a trying time.

Instead, Alex grabbed his jacket and headed towards St. Mary's Hospital, determined to offer whatever support he could to Olivia.

Olivia

I kept watch over Mom with Michael at the hospital all night. The doctor said Mom could finally leave. She had bruises on her face and a broken arm, but no internal bleeding. Yet, I still couldn't accept how the man she chose and loved more than me could treat her that way. I was about to leave the restroom when I overheard some nurses talking.

"He's so handsome, like a celebrity."

"Yeah, a hot daddy!"

My heart suddenly raced. No. Come on, Olivia. They weren't talking about him. Why would they...?

"Liv."

The guy who shouldn't be here in the first place was currently hugging me. Why was he here? Didn't he have a beautiful, sexy, and mature girlfriend? My thoughts were interrupted when he released his embrace.

He looked into my eyes. Why did he seem worried? I was taken aback when he wiped away my tears. Damn. Was I crying already?

"I'm sorry, I'm late," he said, pulling me into another hug.

I don't know why, but I hugged him back and started crying uncontrollably.

Alex

Alex felt a mix of relief and anguish when Olivia fell into his embrace, her tears soaking his shirt. He held her tightly, his heart aching for her pain.

Olivia's sobs echoed in the hospital corridor; her distress palpable. Alex knew there were no words that could truly comfort her in this moment. He simply stood there, silently lending his support, hoping his presence could offer some solace.
