[3] 7. Seeking

Funny and ironic. I used to despise bloodsuckers for doing this. I kill them because of this. But now, I'm ordering one to bite and turn a human into us.

Umalingawngaw ang sigaw ng lalaking nasa harap ko, nanginginig, pilit na may inaabot. His face shows pure fear. For some reason, I do not feel anything. As if I feel like he deserves it.

I smelled blood. Fresh blood. I can see Hunter gulping from my position. Kahit ang asawa ng deputy ay nanginginig at kahit bakas sa mukha ang takot, pinilit niya ang sariling panoorin ang asawa.

The blood flowing down the deputy's blood smells metallic. My eyes follow it as it flows. For some reason, it's not appetizing. 

"Noir," malalim ang boses ko, madiin. Sinisigurado akong maririnig ako ng kausap ko at matatauhan siya.

Fortunately, with just calling his name, his bite loosened. Tumaas ang matutulis niyang pangil na namumula, pati ang bunganga niya. But I can see him breathing heavily, it's definitely hard for him to control himself.

Tumambad sa 'kin ang nanginginig na katawan at namumuting mga mata ng deputy. As if he's having a bad seizure, he can't control himself.

"Lock him up," ani ko. "Make sure that not one person will see him and he will see no human as well."

Noir held him, effortlessly carrying him on his back. He then glanced at me. "I know you can't wait any longer." Natigilan ako sa sinabi niya. "You don't have to wait for this one to be obedient," dagdag niya pa.

I stared back at Noir, taken aback. I know it's not obvious, I didn't show any emotions at all. Maybe because we were both thinking the same thing, he knew what I was feeling.

Hindi ko tatanggihan ang alok niya. "Do you trust me enough to handle this?" I asked. The others are watching us, as if we're the only ones who can understand each other.

Tinalikuran niya 'ko, buhat-buhat pa rin ang deputy at naglakad papalapit sa pintuan. "I trust you enough like how you trust me to handle this," sagot niya. "I'll take care of the deputy and the town. You. You take care of getting Kira."

"What if I don't come back? What if I can't do it alone?" I asked him, but my words were empty. It doesn't mean anything, I set the goal and I plan to do it. It's just that, I want to hear it from him. From the man who doubts me, my existence.

He didn't look back, he continued walking. "I—we will wait for you. Even if you'll just bring bad news, we will wait for you."

He knew that among us, I have the chance to fight back against Val. He knew as well, that he'll just be a burden. I didn't answer back. Bagkus, tinapunan ko ng tingin si Hunter na kita sa mukha ang emosyon. Nangungusap ang mga matang nakatingin sa matagal na niyang nakasama, bago sa akin.

"Are you ready to die?" deretsong tanong ko. At walang pag-aalinlangan din, deretso niya 'kong sinagot. "From the moment I turned, I was already ready."

I didn't need to hear more. I walked towards my bed, at the same time, taking off my nightdress, showing my black and fitted cloth underneath. Under my pillow is my gun with golden chains. I put it on my waist.

Walang lingon-lingon, nagsalita ako. "Then, show me the way."

The air blew, this time, it was not because of the wind. It's because of how fast we left through the window. With Hunter leading, I'm maintaining my speed so I won't run past him. Seeing the position of the moon, I can tell it's before midnight. 

We have at least 5 to six hours before the dawn.

I didn't know where we were going, but with my knowledge of the landscape, I could tell that we were going too far away from the districts. Hindi na 'to kataka-taka, dahil sa pugad kami ng mga bampira pupunta.
