"Having perfected our disguise, we spend our lives searching for someone we don't fool."

Vers

"See," She struggled. "Nothing to it." She fiddled some more with C-53's communications box thing and her own suit technology. "Come on... come on."

"Vers?"

She sensed Naye stand straight as Yon-Rogg's voice came through.

"Vers? Verify. CTC-39."

"GRXV-1600," She rushed out quickly. "And I'm fine, thank you for asking."
She heard the Commander let out a breath before she practically felt him grow serious.

"Vers, is Naye with you?"

Vers frowned, as if confused. "She was taken too?" The blonde listened as Yon-Rogg undoubtedly grew concerned, probably starting to look worried. She fought a smile.
Hearing Naye sigh and knowing her fun was over, the brunette spoke up.

"I'm here, Commander."

Hearing Yon-Rogg relax at the voice and knowledge that they were together and safe, Vers grew serious too. "Is everyone okay? What happened?"

"Skrull ambush." He took a breath, probably shaking his head if she knew him. "I thought we'd lost you both. Did you find Soh-Larr?"

"It wasn't Soh-Larr," Vers replied. "Talos simmed him. Even knew his code." She found herself very aware of how close Naye was to her and how serious she looked as she listened to their conversation.
Those golden eyes were focused and intense. Vers found herself focusing too, but on Naye, not their commander.

She noticed the way her lips were slightly parted and a piece of her hair had fallen onto her face. As much as Vers wanted to tease her, tease that seriousness Naye always harbored, she also found herself drawn to it. To its comfort. To her.

"That's impossible."

Yon-Rogg's voice centered her, even as her eyes begrudgingly moved away from the woman beside her.

"That code was buried in his unconscious."

The statement reminded her of her own mental invasion at the Skrull's hands and Vers felt her emotions rising, Naye's attention turning to her as she obviously sensed it. "The skrulls messed with my mind. The machine that they used... I think it's how they extracted Soh-Larr's code."

Their Commander grew serious once again, even more than he already was.
"Vers, where are you two?"

"We're on planet C-53." Vers looked around, seeing Naye's attention on their Commander's voice, an odd frown on her face as she focused on it, seeming confused. "The Skrulls are looking for someone named Lawson."

"Who?"

Vers noticed Naye's frown deepen at his words, inching closer without seeming to be aware of it.
The blonde tried to brush off the strangeness. "She's who I see."

"She's what? Vers?"

Vers frowned, taking a breath. She looked away, there was too much happening. Naye was tense, head down as she listened with a frown. Everything about Naye distracted the blonde lately. The brunette took up too much of her attention. Plus, what they were talking about now made her feel vulnerable and exposed.
