"How many feelings did I hold back to prove I wasn't too emotional."
◇"Okay. The Skrulls sim alien races to infiltrate and take over planets," Fury started, making sure he had everything down, "and you're Kree? A race of noble warriors."
"Heroes," Vers added. "Noble warrior heroes."
Naye sat in the backseat staring out at their surroundings. It was dry with bush and other general foliage, and the roads were absolute shit.
She also tensed at how comfortable Vers was with this man. She shouldn't be giving him all the details of their mission, even if he did appear to be helping them."So, um, what do Skrulls want with Dr.Lawson?" He asked.
Naye sat forward now. Fury was driving and Vers sat in the passenger seat while Naye had opted for the back. She'd chosen to sit half in the middle and half behind Vers, now leaning forward to take part in the discussion.
She ignored the way the wind blew Vers's smell right into her. And Suns above, the blonde Kree soldier smelled good. Whatever she used on her hair was incredible."They believe that she developed a light-speed engine at Pegasus," Vers answered. Her eyes flickered over Nayeli who'd moved closer, serious and attentive as ever.
Fury looked at both women for a moment. "Light-speed engine? Gotta admit, that's not the craziest thing I've heard today."
"Well, it's still early," Vers offered.
"You humans are scarily behind," Naye suddenly voiced, sounding contemplative and not judgmental. "It's strange how most of the people or creatures on other planets are aware of the world beyond their own. There are trades and excellent intelligence being passed around. Why is C-53 so far behind?" She asked.
"I wouldn't mind an answer to that myself, angry powers," Fury replied, making the brunette frown.
Vers grinned at the name, looking at Nayeli. "See, even my name was better than that."
"'Naye' is just fine," Naye grumbled.
"Or Nayeli," Fury interjected. "I've been meaning to ask about that. So, what? Naye's your nickname?"
"It's the name I go by. I made the mistake of telling Vers my full name... and we can both see she doesn't know when to keep quiet."
"Ooh," Fury chuckled, looking at the offended blonde. "I get that. I'd put you in the doghouse for that one too."
He looked between them both for another quick second, focusing on the road. "So, you two, what do you want?""To stop the Skrulls before they become unstoppable," Vers replied without missing a beat. Naye frowned at the almost programmed words.
"And?" He pressed. They'd all been able to hear there was more to it than that.
Vers side-eyed him. They shared a look, Naye watching, before he sighed.
"Look, war is a universal language, even for us humans. I know a rogue soldier when I see one. You got a personal stake in this."Vers leant her head back, letting out a quiet breath.
Fury hadn't mentioned Naye in saying that. Hadn't thought she was 'rogue' or doing this for personal reasons.
Naye: The perfect soldier, following orders and only working to complete their mission. The way Yon-Rogg had been trying to drill it into Vers to do too... yet she'd never ever managed to get it entirely down.
