The Wall Maria was breached by the Colossal Titan. It destroyed the gate causing some big chunk of debris to be sent flying all over the Shiganshina District, hitting the houses and people helplessly causing them to die instantly.
Because of the opening, its actions allow the pure titans to enter the Shiganshina, where they begin to feast on its many inhabitants whilst the Armored Titan charges towards the inner gate and smashes through it, allowing titans to invade Wall Maria.
