A rhythmic knocking sound stopped the tracks of everyone currently cleaning up after dinner. Jude's mother had came home just in time, the family then enjoyed their dinner together as usual and is now in the process of tidying up.
"Jude, can you get the door honey?" her mother said, hands fully occupied with dirty dishes.
Jude placed down the rag she used to wipe the table before skipping over towards the front door, opening it right after the person behind it knocked a few more times.
Vinny looked up immediately as the door swung open. He could clearly see the shock on Jude's face as her eyes widen and her feet trodded a few steps backwards.
"Hey." he said, offering a smile.
"Hi." Jude's hand gripped the doorknob. "What are you doing here?"
Vinny laughed sheepishly, hand rubbing the back of his neck. His eyes searched for something else to look at other than Jude, somehow the moment felt a little embarassing after not seeing his friend for a while.
"I just wanted to see you, I guess."
Jude swallowed, either the nervousness or the small voice in her head squealing with joy.
"Um, I-"
"Who's it, bug?"
Both their attention turned onto Jude's dad calling out from the inside, now currently making his way to the door.
"It's, uh, Vinny."
Jude exchanged a quick look with her dad, remembering the small talk they had earlier. Jude's heart already felt like it was about to either drop or break out of her chest, as she now understands why she never speaks about her life to anyone. The impact felt somehow too real and embarrassing, having another person understanding her situation.
"Hey.. Jude's dad." Vinny said awkwardly, his hand hesitantly waving.
Jude's dad nodded as a return for the greeting. "You guys wanna come in and hang out for a bit?"
"Oh, I actually was thinking to go out for a bit. With Jude. If that's okay." Vinny said, then looked at Jude.
He was confused for a second seeing her flustered, then realized it definitely looks like he was asking her dad for permission to take her out on a date.
"Just for a bit." he quickly added.
Jude's dad looked at him, then at his daughter. Jude's eyes were glimmering, but not necessarily the same way Vinny's are. Jude seemed to look for answers, like she was asking "should I?" or maybe something like "will this go alright? will I be alright?" and he wished more than anything that he could provide answers. But he knew the only way Jude could get answers, is if that she goes.
"Of course. You guys go have fun. Take the car, looks like it might rain a bit."

It might have been just a couple of days, but Jude is happy to have Vinny sitting next to her again, on the passenger's seat. They had just pulled away from the driveway, now sat in silence as Jude slowly drove towards the darkening sky.
"Where to?" Jude asked, a small smile stretched on her face.
Vinny can't help but clear his throat. The situation felt foreign, even though it shouldn't be.
"I was actually kind of craving ice cream." he said.
"Let's go have some, then." Jude said without hesitation.
Jude didn't want to mention the fact that she had some already, not only because thinking about the ice cream she already had a few moments ago only reminded her that her dad knows about her feelings towards this certain boy, but also because she didn't want Vinny to change his mind. She decided that they'll just go anyways, then maybe not order for herself.
