"Will You Marry Me?"

My piano lesson was, let's be honest, REALLY embarrassing! Mike watched the whole thing and I felt myself go red every time I made a mistake. The piano instructor was a kind man who looked to be in his late 20's. although he wasn't the best sight to look at, he taught me well. I'd probably be as good as Peter in a few weeks! well... maybe not. Pete is dang good at the keyboard. it would be nice to see Peter and Dennis DeYoung of Styx play a synthesizer together, if only this were the 70's.

We got back to the pad together, laughing and cracking jokes as we walked through the door. I was having so much of a good time that I forgot to consider others feelings. Micky immediately ran up the stairs and slammed the Monkees' bedroom door. I went up there and tried to speak to him for the second time that day. at least he wasn't bawling his eyes out this time. "hey Mick" I flashed a huge smile and rubbed his back. "what do you want? to tell me all about your day with Mike? I don't wanna hear it"   "no, I was actually thinking we could go on a date tomorrow. I mean a long date. an all day date"  his face seemed to light up at this. "you really want to? that's so groovy!"  "sure I wanna! we should just grab a little breakfast, get ready, and be out the door"  "I'll look forward to it"  he replied. I leaned in and kissed him for awhile. one things for sure: Micky was a way better kisser than Michael. we pulled apart and sat there awkwardly for a few moments. "I think I'm gonna hit the sack. I'll see ya tomorrow"  it was hard to keep the excitement for the next day out of my voice. I hated to admit it, but I think my day with Micky will be much more enjoyable than my day with Michael was.

the next morning, I got off the couch, and went up to the restroom to get my outfit on. It consisted of light blue bellbottoms with a tight shirt that had the band Journey's logo on the front. It was the same one I'd seen Steve Perry the lead singer of Journey wearing, so I'd ended up begging my parents for it. anything my Steve Perry has, I gotta have. then I applied ruby red lipstick and did the winged look on my eyes with my liquid eyeliner from my previous home. I then put on some silver hoop earrings, a white watch and a beaded necklace. I put a hippie "headband" on and put on my 60's style men's white dress shoes that I'd fallen in love with as soon as I'd seen Gregg Rolie of Journey wearing them. well, not the exact same ones, but the style the same. For my hair, I tried to give it a little volume and wave and let it hang over my shoulders. I got my women's beret hat on and then my hippie sunglasses. I was ready to go. I walked down the stairs and the guys commented on my shirt. "Journey?"  "is that a scarab beetle on your shirt?"  "what in the world is Journey?"  then me, "jeez! do you always get that worked up over a shirt? it's a band! my second favorite one! Styx is my first!"   "I thought you said Styx was a sports team" Mike stated. "no. remember? we listened to Come Sail Away out on the beach that time? that song is by Styx. then you guys listened to a bunch of their other songs too"   "oh that's right!" Mike exclaimed. "yeah, Alzheimer's" I teased him. he chuckled and went back to his breakfast.

Thankfully, it was time to go really soon. As soon as Micky was finished with his waffles, we went out the door together. I was glad he let his hair go natural, I didn't like it when it was chemically straightened. The curls really matched his personality. "okay, exactly where are we going?"  I asked. "you'll see" he smiled and I couldn't contain my excitement. I couldn't stand the anticipation! we were driving for about fifteen minutes and I tried to figure out exactly where we were headed but couldn't find any clues anywhere. "Seriously, where are we going?"   we were now driving through a small-town on a winding road that inclined the whole way. I was fiddling with the radio when we drove onto a gravel road. I looked up when something large and white caught my eye. it was the Hollywood sign! "Micky! how'd you know I always wanted to come here?"  he grinned. "it was a good guess, I guess. see what I did there?"   I giggled. Mick's jokes and puns were so corny sometimes. "wanna hike up to it?" he asked me. "are we allowed to?"   "come on baby, I'm a Monkee, they'll let us"  "whatever you say"  we held hands as we hiked up the grassy hill that led up to the sign. it was steep and I didn't have the best hiking clothes on, let alone shoes. wearing mens dress shoes wasn't a good idea. It was only a few moments before I slipped. he caught me with one arm before I went tumbling down the whole hill. "you alright?"  "yeah, I just shoulda worn better shoes"  "no kidding" he replied, eyeing my shoes. we reached the sign in a couple minutes. it was a short but steep hike. the letters were much larger than I expected them to be. I walked behind the sign and looked at all the letters. This is probably the first and last time I'll ever be able to see the sign from this point of view. Micky and I took a seat on either side of the H and talked about anything that came to mind. "do ya wanna show me where you live after this?" he asked me.  "nothings gonna be there you know"  "I know, I just want to see where you live... in the future years I guess" I looked at the ground. "I reallt miss being home Mick. What will my parents think? I want to go back"  he came over to the spot where I was and out his arms around me shoulders. "hey, if you left, you'd leave me here all alone. you wouldn't wanna do that now would ya?"   "of course not"

next, he did something so unexpected I couldn't speak. It was so early in the relationship, I didn't know how to begin to reply. He pulled me to my feet and he got down on a knee."Jeddy, will you marry me?"   I tried to think of a way to sound polite. "Mick, I just met you a couple months ago, I don't know if this is wise"  I saw his face change from excited to immediately disappointed. "Micky, I'll marry you!"  he put the ring on my finger and got to his feet and spun me around.  I threw my head back and laughed. "oh my gosh, thank you!"   when he finally put me back on my feet I said, "don't thank me for how groovy of a person you are" we both laughed at that and we headed back to the Monkeemobile. "you wanna visit your future home?"   "sure! it'll be interesting seeing what it used to look like"   "you drive" he told me. "Uh, I don't that's such a good idea. you drive it"   "suit yourself"

we drove back to the pad, me being newly engaged to Micky. The only negative thing I had to worry about was what I'd say to Michael.
