A day as an equestrian

When I woke up the next day (I'd slept on the floor), I got up and walked down the spiral staircase but stumbled. I ended up rolling down the stairs instead of walking. I landed at the bottom of the steps with a thud. "wow are you alright?". Davy asked. "I guess I'll have to be" I replied. Davy helped me up and I smiled widely. gosh he's cute. "hey you two come here and sit down at the table, breakfast is ready" Mike said. "ooh what did ya make?". "Chocolate chip pancakes". "They sound so good". "Well here ya go" he handed me a plate with two of them on it and then we all gulped them down. "those were very good Mike" Peter said. he's always so blunt and serious. I wonder why. "wanna go ride a horse city girl?". It was Davy who asked this. "city girl? who are ya callin' city girl? I can ride a horse as well an anybody". Peter and Mike exchanged looks and Micky laughed loudly. "ah yeah I'd like to see that" Micky said. "fine. I'll show you!".

We all three walked to the shed which was on the neighbors property but it was technically David's horse. he used to be a jockey. "ready? "First ya put your foot 'ere and hoist yourself over. or I can give ya a leg-up". I smiled politely at him. "I can get up by myself thanks" then I hopped into the saddle and grabbed the reins. "Lets go boy!". I whispered to the horse. I think his name was Radar. we trotted along the beach and went into a canter. I didn't quite trust a gallop quite yet, so we kept it at a nice canter the whole time. I'd once taken horse lessons and the teacher tried to teach me a collected canter which pulled the horses neck into it's chest and I refused to do it since I thought it must be uncomfortable for the horse. plus, this horse was Davy's and I didn't want him to get that idea that I was hurting his horse. "Davy, you wanna ride now?". "Yeah I'll show ya how a jockey does it" he smiled and took the saddle off. It must be uncomfortable to gallop without a saddle. it seems like the backbone would hurt your crotch. Sorry for the awkward moment there, but it's true. he climbed up anyways and galloped away on the sand. I stood next to Mike. "you did better than we expected of you". "Jeez it's nice to have friends that expect so much of me" I rolled my eyes. "I didn't mean it like that Jeddy". He said. "Jeddy? a new nickname? wow". "I like Jed better" Peter commented. "I love that too!" I exclaimed. That was settled. my new nickname was Jed. I liked it even though it was a common boy name.

Davy came back about five minutes later. he had a huge proud smile plastered on his face. "what did ya think of that one?" He asked. "I'm super impressed". I smiled back at him. I was beginning to have feelings for the guy. When he dismounted Radar, who was very tall for him, he grabbed my hand and the reins of Radar to bring him back to the barn. I walked by his side since it'd be rude to pull my hand away. I also enjoyed holding his hand. I was exactly Davy's height so if we ever kissed or something, it wouldn't be awkward. oops, did I just think that? he put back he bridle and put Radar in the stall. "doesn't he get restless living in a stall?". "That's why I ride him often". "I see". We walked out of the barn together and Peter ran up to us, or ran up to me I should say. "Wanna go to the studio with us Jedda?". He asked excitedly. "of course!". Davy glared at Peter as he hooked his arm with mine and we began to walk together back to the house, Peter and I with Davy trailing behind.

Mike and Micky were already ready to go when we got inside. "Ready Davy?". "Give me five minutes to get ready". Mike shook his head. "ya comin' along Jed?" he used my new nickname. "yeah duh!" I said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. he smiled. I took off his wool hat and placed it on my own head just to see what I looked like. I was expecting some cool style to appear in the mirror but when I saw myself I burst into laughter. I looked like I had a mushroom on my head! "I think ya should have this back". I told Mike. he accepted it from me and our hands touched. I blushed a deep scarlet and looked away so he wouldn't see. Davy came down the stairs then and took my hand like he had a few minutes ago. I followed him out the door with our hands still entwined.

We piled into the Monkeemobile which was a COOL car, and drove all the way there. it was cool to see the town from the 60's. I know the 60'a weren't all that good though, what with the women's rights and all, but I sure was enjoying this decade more than my home year. the studio wasn't that big. a lot less smaller than the studios that Styx had recorded in. (yes I've been to the studios Styx has recorded in) inside, it was pretty nice with chairs lining the walls and a bunch of amplifiers, keyboards, guitars, and basses. I really wanted to get my hands on one of them basses. I was actually quite good at playing it. my lessons really paid off. "Okay, you can sit here and watch us play, and then we'll go out and get lunch, how does that sound?". I nodded and gave a thumbs up. they plugged in their instruments and began playing. Micky handed me a tambourine to play, and though I didn't know what I was doing, it was pretty fun. they performed, You Just May Be The One and a bunch of other songs I adored. Sweet Young Thing was one of my favorites also.

I picked up one of the basses without asking them and began jamming on it. I played the bass parts to Styx songs that I remembered and didn't realize what was going on around me. you really can get lost in the music. It took me a few minutes to notice the looks they were giving me, especially Davy. "If ya can play that good, the fellas and I should really consider 'aving you in the band". I held up my hands. "no way boys. there's no way I'm joining a rock n' roll band. with that, we went to a local diner that was very low-priced. not what I was used to. I was used to fancy expensive restaurants that you needed a reservation to get into. they all had burgers and fries, but I had a plain salad with croutons. "so, where do you come from again?". Micky asked. "I'm from just off the border of Sacramento California". "Where did you live? not in one of those nasty tenements did you?". Peter asked matter-of-factly. "No. believe it or not, I live in a mansion and I drive a T-bird". "Yer a rich kid?". Davy asked. "yeah!" I said excitedly. Mike looked at the ground with a frown, like somehow my being rich was a bad thing. "what's it like?". "Well, we have really nice cars. oh by the way, your car is way cooler than any of ours" they all grinned at that. "As I was saying, we have really nice cars, live in a mansion, and basically get everything we want. my record collection is quite extensive" they looked at me like I was some alien from outer-space. "So, what else are ya gonna do today? play some more music?". I asked eagerly. "how bout' we drive to your mansion and check it out. it's be quite the adventure don't ya think?". Mike asked. "it's a long way from here ya know". "I realize that, I just thought it'd be fun". He shrugged and we began eating. I talked to Micky a lot more than the rest of them, he was the easiest to talk to. when we were done eating, the guys, except for Micky, got into the Monkeemobile. Micky and I walked slower and chatted along the way. "what's the real reason you don't wanna go back? a rich kid like you should wanna live in a mansion, not with us in our little house". "I like your house. but I miss home". I admitted. "I could drive ya back if you'd like". "I can't go home". "Why not?". "If I told ya you'd call me crazy". "I promise I won't". I took his word for it and took a deep breath, let it out, then another, and let it out. "okay so remember when I asked you what year it was out on the beach that first day?". He nodded. "well, I'm not from this time period so that's why I can't go home. the mansion wouldn't even be there and my parents are just kids now". "You could give them a visit". My eyes widened. "yeah, just walk into their houses and tell their parents that I'm their future daughter. I don't think that'd go over too well". "No probably not". "You actually believe what I told you?". "Why wouldn't I? I trust you". I let my hair hang like a curtain between the two of us. "So what year are you from?". "2014". "Wow! what's it like?". "I can't tell you. but all I can say is, technology is taking over the world. it's weird to think that back home time is still passing like normal and I'm just here spending time in the past like it's no big deal. my parents are probably so worried". We were just getting seated in the car by then. Micky sat in the middle, next to me. they had the top on over the car. I put my head I'm my hands and Micky did something unexpected. he reached over and gave me a long hug. it was much appreciated. after a few seconds, I hugged him back and the guys all did catcalls. I ignored them and giggled. so that's it for another exciting day with the Monkees.

Okay guys, this story is entirely based off of their television show so in case some of it seems fanatical, that's why. thanks for reading!:)
