Jake's POV.
. . .
"Heyy! Blondie and blueberry! Congrats on first place- that duet was pretty sick!"
"...Blueberry?" Hailey muttered, slightly cringing.
She took a glance at some of her hair, as if trying to figure out if she genuinely resembled a blueberry.
"Hey, thanks! We were pretty great." I said with a smirk, crossing my arms confidently.
"...Looks like, you've improved a lot- huh Jake? And you've still got your ambition to sing...I'm glad." The guy infront of me said with a smirk.
"Yeah..!" I chuckled awkwardly, putting my hand on the back of my neck.
"Uhm...Whaa?" I put my hand back down, clearly confused.
Why was he talking as if he knew me?
Hailey glanced at me.
"You know this guy?" She asked, her eyes darting from me and the guy in front of us.
"Noo," I started, shaking my head. "I don't-" I paused, taking another look at the guy.
Now that I was thinking about it, he looked familiar...But I couldn't put my finger on it...
I squinted my eyes, trying to get a closer look.
"Huh.." I murmured, my eyes widening in surprise as I came to the realization.
"MAX?!"
He chuckled mischievously.
"Long time no see, Jakey!"
I smiled and laughed, still slightly in shock.
"I can't believe it's really you!! I haven't seen you since middle school!!" I exclaimed.
He laughed along with me.
"I know right?! I didn't even know you went to Rosemeadow!"
"Yeah!! I transferred here after middle school! I never had the chance to tell you about that- haha..." I laughed awkwardly, realizing that I basically left him alone back then.
He laughed and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I see you still haven't changed- You always feel guilty over the smallest things!" He exclaimed.
Hailey raised a brow, looking at me once more.
"So...Middle school friend?" She asked, tilting her head in curiosity.
I nodded.
"Yeah! Max was my best friend back in middle school!"
Let me take a moment to explain. . .
Max and me were the only, 'music geeks' back then...Both of us were picked on and only found a friend in each other...We only split up because my mom enrolled me into a new school due to the bullying. I still feel bad for leaving him behind...
