So ... what exactly happened last night? You were sure it was a dream. No. Maybe you should be thinking of this as a nightmare, Oh god. It definitely didn't feel like a nightmare. You'd slept with your best friend. No, no, worse than that. You'd slept with your family friend. As in, all of your family and all of his family were staying in a vacation lake house together right now and you'd just slept with him.
WTF.
You force yourself to eventually open your eyes and take in your surroundings. His bedroom walls, his nightstand, his sheets over your naked form. It's cold in his room but then again it always is, you're sure he's not turned the AC off ever. You pull the sheets a little higher over you and push yourself into the mattress like you're trying to make sure it's all real.
Your eyes adjust enough to the light and you take a deep breath, forcing yourself to turn over in the sheets and face in the other direction, towards the other side of the mattress. it was empty.
Was he fucking kidding? He'd fucking left you here? That's just typical Cole you know, last night he wa-
"You're awake," His voice speaks from the end of the mattress, where he was perched on the foot of the bed.
He's wearing only a pair of boxers, the muscles of his back contorting as he lifts up a hand to drag through his hair.
"Sorry, I'm normally a pretty early riser but I didn't want to leave you here," He explains and the tension in your chest relaxes.
You hold one hand over the sheets on your chest and push yourself up to sit against the pillows behind you, readjusting the sheets once more to make sure you are covered.
"Did you sleep okay?" Cole asks, clearing his throat a little before moving back into the bed to sit beside you, hands on either side of him like they're not sure where they're supposed to be placed.
"Yeah, yeah, fine," You nod a little too quickly, "Um, did you?"
He nods in return but doesn't speak.
Oh god.
This is awful. I mean this is literally dreadful.
Until last night this guy had been your best friend. He'd been your confidante and your partner in crime. He'd been like the other half of you. And one tipsy kiss had turned to another and another and... well, there was only one way you eventually ended up naked in his bed.
But, damn, it was good.
NO.
Back to reality, this is awful, why is this so awkward?
"Do you-"
"Can we-"
Both of you pause at the same moment and glance at each other for a split second. But your eyes linger there and so do his. His hair is curling around either side of his face, his eyes softer in the mornings. There's a mark on his shoulder from where your fingers had been gripping him last night. You blush at the thought.
At the same moment, Cole sees you too. Your hair is messy and tangled around your head. Your lips stifled a yawn. And he reaches a hand out to brush your hair back from your neck, his thumb brushing over a darkening mark left by him.
"I didn't realize I-"
"It's okay," You assure him, your eyes watching the way his scan over you.
You move your hands to fix the sheet around your chest, pulling it up underneath your shoulders tightly.
