After the first and second periods were over, it was time for gym class.
I met up with Andrew, Dillan, and Ethan. Ethan had some lipstick on his cheek, and I guess we know who that's from.
"This is gonna be so fucking funny, I'm telling you guys." Ethan said, laughing to himself.
"Ethan, did you see that fight earlier between Darlie and Jessica?" Andrew said, looking at him.
"What? Why didn't you tell me about that?" Ethan immediately stopped laughing.
"Because you left to go make out with Vicky, we can see her lipstick on your cheek." Andrew pointed out, which caused Ethan to try and wipe it off.
"Whatever, girls like me and girls hate you." Ethan said, immediately going back to laughing, and Andrew looked away.
We continued walking, heading to the gym, which was all the way acros the school building. Until we heard a loud scream coming from the bathrooms.
"The hell was that?" I said to myself, looking around. I was not going to let myself get shaken up again.
"You think we should check it out?" Dillan asked, looking at all of us.
Since he was the "leader," we have no other choice. We started walking where the noise came from.
We got there and looked at the bathroom, which was the girls' bathroom. "Dillan, we can't go in there. That's weird."
"Then go get Darlie or Vicky, someone."
"Darlie got taken to the detention room." Andrew said, looking at Dillan.
"And Vicky is all the way in the basement trying to skip cooking class." Ethan continuing what Andrew said.
"How about we get Misty?" Everybody immediately looked at me, then at each other bursting out laughing. I flushed red as embarrassment flooded my body.
"Eli, she doesn't even talk to you like that. Why would we get her?" Ethan commented, hitting Andrew while he too was laughing.
"I'll just go sneak Darlie out of the detention room, stay here." Dillan said, walking away from us.
"When are you ever gonna get over Misty anyway? You've liked her since the 7th grade, and we're in 11th grade now. You still haven't said anything or become actual friends with her." Ethan said, pushing Andrew away from him.
"I...I don't know, there's something about her that I can't work up any courage to talk to her or befriend her." I responded, scratching the back of my head awkwardly.
"Eli, we'll help you." Andrew said before Ethan hit him in the back of the head.
"You are the last person who should be offering help. Like I said, girls like me and girls hate you." Ethan snapped at Andrew.
TW: Mention of death and blood ☠️
Dillan came back with Darlie, who looked annoyed that she had to be around us.
"What." She looked at us while crossing her arms.
"We heard someone scream from the bathroom, and we wanted to see what it was." Andrew said, looking at her.
She groaned and walked into the bathroom. Not even 30 seconds later, she came back out screaming.
"Is this a prank? What the fuck is wrong with you guys!?" She screamed at us
"I'm telling Mrs. Choi on you guys." She said, walking off.
"Wait." Dillan grabbed her wrist and pulled her back, "What was in there also? If you tell her now, you're just snitching on yourself. You shouldn't have been out of the detention room in the first place."
Darlie hesitantly whispered into his ear what she saw, her body slightly shaking.
"Andrew, look into the bathroom. Now."
"But it's the girls bathroom-"
"Nobody's in there." Darlie said, cutting him off.
Andrew hesitantly looked inside the bathroom, his eyes widened, and he looked back at us.
"Someone's... dead in there." I immediately looked at Andrew and so did Ethan.
"You're all joking." Ethan said, trying to brush it off.
"No, I'm serious, man. There's a girl on the floor lying in a pool of blood..." Andrew said, frightened.
I froze. We're all just standing outside the girls' bathroom talking about a dead girl, and out of everybody, Ethan says they're joking. What kind of person lies about someone dead in a bathroom...?
"Ethan, you can look yourself, but I'm out of here. Someone in this building did it, and I don't feel safe anymore." Darlie said, walking away to go tell Mrs. Choi or someone.
I didn't feel safe either and immediately walked off, shaken from the thought about a dead body not even being a mile away from me. I had to go tell someone.
Who would do something like this, especially in school. They're definitely still in the building, and right now, I wanna leave more than ever. I doubt the school is gonna even find out who did it.
The school went on lockdown for the rest of the day, and we all went home early. School was canceled for the rest of the month, while police investigated what happened.
I rode my bike back home, and I left it in the front, I honestly didn't trust going to the side anymore.
I looked around before grabbing my key from my pocket and unlocking the door, and walking inside. Quickly closing it behind me.
If Darlie didn't go with Dillan, we wouldn't have known there was a girl lying on the floor in a pool of her own blood. It's scary to think about.
The house was silent, which meant my dad wasn't home yet. I went to my room and locked myself in there, turning on music, the TV, anything to make noise so I wouldn't have to think about what had happened a few hours ago even though deep down, I couldn't stop thinking about it.
I sat on my bed and took off my shoes, and threw my bag onto the floor.
This time, instead of my dad's phone ringing mine did. I hesitantly picked it up, staying quiet.
...
"Hellooo??" Okay, it was only Ms. Carol calling.
"Hi, Ms. Carol." I responded, speaking quietly.
"Hey Eli, are you okay? I just saw what happened at your school on the news. Wanted to check up on you since your dad hasn't gone home yet."
"... Not really, no." I tried to make it seem like my voice wasn't shaky, but I obviously couldn't hide that.
"I could call up your dad and tell him what happened so he'll close up early and you won't be alone. Sound good?"
"Yeah, thank you, Ms. Carol."
"Anytime, I'll call him from another phone. Don't hang up on me, Eli, you hear me?"
"I hear you..."
I could hear rolling her chair to another phone and her dialing my dad's number. I heard them talking, but it was muffled.
...
"Alright, I'm back hun. Your dad is closing up early, and he's gonna head back home in about 30 minutes, which is as early as he can leave."
"Okay... thank you once again."
"Of course, if you don't feel comfortable sitting in silence, we can talk."
"I'd rather just sit in silence."
"Okay, stay safe. Don't open the door for anybody. Your dad has his keys."
"Okay, thanks for letting me know."
"Buh-bye."
"Goodbye." I hung up and placed my phone down. I took a deep breath.
I want some other form of comfort. In moments like this, I need my mom. Why did she have to go? She won't ever get to see me get married to the love of my life, meet her grandchild, she won't be able to retire, she won't be able to see me graduate highschool and start college. She won't see me do that either.
This world is selfish.
