When you're in high school, it's important to talk to anyone and everyone if you can. Stay cautious, though, because not everybody is as friendly as you think.
As someone who built their way up, you still need connections from people who are already the way up.
Jason used to be bullied by this one guy named Nicholas, and he was deadly afraid of him. Until Nicholas had transferred one day and didn't come back for the rest of his 10th grade year.
He came back his 11th grade year, and Jason went back to trying to avoid him. I found myself talking to him during freshman year. He was a pretty nice guy, just hated Jason for what he did to some girl in middle school.
As harmless as he looked now, you did not want to get on his bad side. He was a pretty chill guy, and he gave me his number, I still remembered it and gave him a call.
Brrrringg... Bringgggg...
"Uh- Hello?"
It was a girls voice on the other line.
"Hey, is um Nicholas there?"
...
"NICK I TOLD YOU TO STOP GIVING THESE PEOPLE THIS PHONE NUNBER."
It went silent for a moment before Nicholas himself grabbed the phone.
"What's up?"
"Hey Nicholas, you remember me? Elijah."
"Oh, yeah. What's going on?"
"You know Jason, right?"
"That pussy ass white boy? Yeah."
"He uhm, came into the lunchroom yesterday during my lunch and beat my ass in front of everyone. I blacked out and woke up in the nurses office."
I heard him take a deep breath, and he thought for a moment.
"Don't worry, I got you. Go ahead and bring all your little homies tomorrow, and we all gon beat his ass if that's cool with you."
"Some of them got suspended-"
"Don't worry about it. Tomorrow, they're gonna have more to worry about other than suspended kids at school." He laughed, and I chuckled awkwardly.
"Just tell them not to go to class and stay in the hallways and shit. They'll only get caught if Ms.Choi see them or they check the cameras."
"Sounds like a plan."
"Meet me at 6:00 and go to the side of the school tomorrow, we gon talk there."
"Can you call me beforehand to remind me?"
"I'll try, but I don't know, I gotta bounce though before my ma gets mad. See you tomorrow."
"See you."
He hung up, and I placed my phone down, satisfied. There was only one problem, though. I don't know what happened after Andrew had left. His parents are extremely controlling, so anything could've happened.
I decided to be risky and call him, praying to god his parents didn't answer. They don't even like me cause they think I'm a bad influence.
Bringgg.... Bringgggg... Brinnggg.. Bringgg..
The phone rang for a while until someone had finally answered before the last time.
"What."
"Andrew! Are you okay?"
"Oh, hey Eli. I'm cool."
"I need you to come to school at 6:00, sharp."
I heard Andrew immediately laughing on the other line before he stopped, realizing I was serious.
