Is this for me?

My name is Candy Bane and I'm 10 years old. I joined Fairy Tail a couple of months ago and I already love this family. My mother, Indica disappeared 4 years ago. After she disappeared, I wandered aimlessly at the age of 6 looking for food and shelter. Then an Egg dropped in front of me from out of nowhere, and later, my now best friend hatched from said egg. A female, grey exceed with a white patch on her tummy. I decided to name her Rosie, because she hatched in a patch of roses. She's been with me ever since and I couldn't ask for a better best friend.

Eventually we made it to Magnolia and ran into the Thunder Legion along with a man named Laxus Dryer. Laxus is like the leader of the Thunder Legion. And of course the big softie immediately found a soft spot for me, probably because I was a starving 10 year old, and took me to Fairy Tail. Now, I'm the 3rd Dragon Slayer to join Fairy Tail, and let me just say, everyone was very excited about that. I'm still figuring out my place in the guild, but I've gotten along with everyone so far. I have noticed that Laxus can be a bit of a jerk to others though. But I guess that's just how he is. I hang out with the Thunder Legion and Mira above anything else. I like to help Mira serve the guild members and she helps teach me a few more things about cooking since I was still learning when my mother disappeared.

One day, I was just lounging around the guild when Laxus and the Thunder Legion returned from a job and made a big entrance as usual. Well, more like Natsu made a big deal about challenging Laxus and he turned him down again, claiming he wasn't ready to take him on yet. The Thunder Legion came over to me and Rosie and sat down at the table we were at. "Hey Candy! How have you been settling in?" Evergreen inquired. She's always been very kind to me. She is my current source for clean clothes until I raise enough money from my jobs to buy my own clothes. "Good. Kinda bored right now. I'm mostly just helping Mira with cooking and baking and all that kitchen stuff." I responded with an absent tone. Bickslow chuckled at this, "You don't sound too enthusiastic about that." I just look at him with a 'duh' look and sigh. "I'm just getting bored only doing kitchen stuff. I want to actually go out there and see the world and have a reason to be excited." Rosie from next to me then speaks up, "Candy, you know what Master Makarov said. We can't go on jobs without a team." "Yeah....I know that, but it's still boring."

Around that time, Laxus finally walks over to us, now that he got Natsu to leave him alone, or more like Erza did. "Hey kid, you want to go on jobs just join the Thunder Legion." At this I immediately perked up. Laxus wants me to join the Thunder Legion?! But the Thunder Legion is known as his personal bodyguards! I'm just a little girl who's still got a lot of training ahead of her. "Uh.....thanks but....are you sure you want me to join the Thunder Legion?" At this Freed finally speaks up, "Of course! You may be young, but it's obvious you're powerful and smart. Not to mention you have amazing potential to become something amazing, and we want to help you get there." Freed gestured to the rest of the Legion as well as Laxus. I looked down at my feet considering this, while Laxus smirked. "If you decide to join us then meet us at Kardia Cathedral at sundown ok kid?" I nodded silently at him as he and the legion left to do whatever, Evergreen putting a hand on my shoulder and smiling at me as she passed. I looked at Rosie and asked her, "So? What do you think? You think I should join the Thunder Legion?" She smiled and immediately nodded, "Of course I think you should join the Thunder Legion Candy!! They're the reason we were even able to find Fairy Tail in the first place! We would probably still be out on the streets starving right now if it wasn't for them. Or worse." Well, ok I think she's being a bit over dramatic. "We could've found Fairy Tail without them." I said, rolling my eyes. Yeah....I tend to be a bit stubborn when it comes to change. Rosie just looked at me with an 'are you serious' face. "Come on Candy, I know you don't like change but I know you like the Thunder Legion. So do I! All they've ever been is nice to us, and this clearly isn't an offer Laxus gives everyone, considering there's only three of them." Rosie explained, gesturing to the door where the four of them walked out of a few minutes ago. I think about this for a minute, and then I turn to Reedus who is painting at a table next to us. "Hey Reedus? How much longer do we have until sundown?" He looked at his watch and responded with, "Oui. We have about 30 minutes until sundown." Wow! Laxus really didn't give us much time to decide. "Ok, thanks." He responded with a simple, "Oui." And went back to painting. I like Reedus, he's easy to talk to and a good listener. He's also already painted a picture of me and Rosie just sitting and talking. It was his 'welcome to the guild' gift. I especially appreciate this gift from him because just looking at the picture you can tell Rosie and I have a special connection. I wouldn't trade her for the world. She helped me stay happy when we were starving and homeless. I have the gift from Reedus framed in my room in the girls dorm that Erza was so kind to pay for until I can pay for it myself.

I must admit, this guild is like nothing I would ever expect to exist in this world. While living homeless, I was very rudely introduced to the cruelty of the world, and how quickly the people in it like to take advantage of a sick, tired, and hungry little girl. It's sickening and I've only told Master Makarov and Erza about it, since they needed to know what my life was like before finding Fairy Tail. They wanted to know how to help me start a good life with the guild, for example, paying for my living accommodations. I'm not saying I'm not extremely thankful to everyone here so far, it's just the thought of having to move onto a new life that doesn't involve living with my mother is very unsettling. I miss her so much, and I still, no matter how much I think about it, I still can't figure out why she would suddenly disappear on me like that. I thought she loved me and it would just be the two of us forever, but apparently that's not going to happen. Rosie keeps trying to get me to talk to Natsu about all this, since he's the only other Dragon Slayer in the guild who can relate to what I'm going through. Natsu is the Fire Dragon Slayer, and Laxus is the Lightning Dragon Slayer. Mira told me about them, and how Laxus is only a Dragon Slayer because his father placed a Lightning Dragon Slayer lacrima in him to make sure he was a powerful wizard. That's so cruel! How could someone do that to their kid?! "I don't know, all I remember of Laxus' father was that he was extremely power hungry, and one day his hunger got so bad that Master Makarov had to kick him out of the guild." That was all Mira said on the matter. As for Natsu, he was raised by a dragon named Igneel. When he first joined the guild, it's all he would talk about. The way Igneel was so powerful he could destroy an entire mountain, and how he was able to be strong and terrifying, yet fatherly and gentle at the same time. I understand his awe about that. I always wondered the same about how Indica was able to do the same. I'm brought out of my thoughts when Rosie puts her tiny little paw on my forearm, and as if she was able to hear my thought she said, "I know you don't like change Candy, but this is how we survive. This guild is a safe place and these people want nothing from us. All they want is to help us. For the first time, we can relax and know we're safe. You've been wondering what our place is in the guild, and it's with the Thunder Legion." I look down at her with a warm smile. "You always know exactly what to say Rosie. Thank you. Maybe you're right. Maybe this guild is exactly what we needed."
