Chapter Eighteen: Youth and Kais

The Z Fighters were gathered on the upper balconies, the main entryway between the audience seating areas and the entrance to the waiting rooms. Each of them seemed interested in the battles involving Trunks and Goten, but there was little fun to be had in terms of skill and trouble.

Nitrate stood next to Goku and Chi-Chi, the two of them using the Budokai as an excuse to spend more time with the Frost Demon. Not that he would complain, as he had also missed the time he used to spend with everyone. It reminded him of the older days, when Cell was roaming around the planet and absorbing people for power.

The sounds of applause reminded Nitrate that Trunks and Goten were currently fighting each other in the arena. The children, although inexperienced, were attacking with an incredible speed and ferocity that left everyone else in the audience speechless. He noticed that both children were attempting to hold back from using Ki and flying for long periods of time, but were occasionally making mistakes.

Nitrate: "The two of them are pretty strong."

Krillin: "Yeah, it's really impressive!"

Gohan: "This is great!"

The battle continued, and the audience was becoming more and more excited to see the conclusion. The two hybrids were continuously trading blows, performing acrobatic techniques, and testing each other's stance. Nitrate realised that these were things he had tried to teach Gohan before he died to Cell in the Cell Games.

Goten seemed to be the strongest out of them both, as their long-winded battle had proven. He was moving with much precision and focus, although he was making some unnecessary actions that wasted his Ki and stamina. The loss of such elements could prove disadvantageous when Trunks begins using more techniques.

The fight continued, with both kids trading blows, when Trunks suddenly decided to use Ki blasts in the fight. He summoned two balls of yellow energy into his hands and aimed them towards Goten, who barely dodged in time. Goten decided to respond with an attack of his own, using the Kamehameha that Goku had taught him. Nitrate was undeniably impressed, and watched on with a big smile.

However, all pride and excitement immediately vanished when Trunks managed to catch Goten off-guard and force him into a chokehold. This would not have been an issue, considering it was the boy's own fault for losing his foe in battle, but Nitrate couldn't overlook that Goten had used Super Saiyan in the middle of a large social event. He did not remember this from the manga or anime, likely due to how long he'd been living in this new world.

Nitrate: "What the hell is he doing?!"

Gohan: "Goten, you dope!!"

Goku: "I told him not to go Super Saiyan!"

Vegeta: "That was a cheap shot, Kakarot!!"

Goku: "W-Why are you yelling at me?!"

Nitrate / Vegeta: "Because you're his father, idiot!!"

The battle continued with Trunks pushing forward in an attempt to gain a better footing against Goten, however, both children were revealing more of their powers. There was a deep tension between Goku, Vegeta, and Nitrate. Everything came to a standstill when Trunks decided to make a bet with Goten that he wouldn't use his left arm during the remainder of their battle, the latter agreeing.

This proved to be a terrible decision on Trunks' part as Goten immediately rushed towards him. He rushed down from the air and attempted to take out the purple-haired hybrid with a single attack, only to miss when he dodged away using Super Saiyan AND used his left hand to blast towards Goten with Ki. The youngest son of Goku smiled.
