Chapter Thirty Seven: Buying Time, Gohan VS Frieza

Sparks of untamed energy struck against the earth with primal strength as Gohan and Frieza continued trading blows, their power shifting and pressing against the other with an unwillingness to relent. The Z Fighters had to watch in suspense as their comrade traded punches with the Emperor of the Universe, teeth clenching from the constant pain coursing through his muscles.

Despite transforming into a Super Saiyan Two and focusing his power, Frieza was maintaining a steady hold in his weakest form. Nevertheless, Gohan continued his flurry of attacks and managed to land a precise blow against the Arcosian's chest, earning him a narrowed, pained expression, before lifting his other arm up into an uppercut that sent Frieza into the air.

The Emperor of the Universe grit his teeth with tenacity, powering up further, and rushed back down to meet Gohan half way. He managed to push the hybrid Saiyan into the dirt with a thunderous slam, which also seemed to disorientate him for a moment, and clenched both hands together before slamming them down. Gohan crossed his arms and successfully blocked the hit.

Frieza attempted to simply punch Gohan in the face in retort, but found himself hit with tremendous pain. He looked down to find his opponent's knee pressing into a portion of his stomach and crushing his internals. The Frost Demon spat out saliva from his mouth but remained standing upright, backing away to regain himself. He failed to notice Gohan rushing to his own feet and preparing another punch. 

Gohan's fist landed in the side of Frieza's skull. He yelled in pain, but managed to respond with a direct strike against the Saiyan's chest that pushed him back. They tried to dodge each other at the same time and rushed opposite sides. 

With a flash of his hand, Frieza charged a Ki blast into his palm and aimed towards Gohan with a sickening smirk, releasing the powerful beam directly into his face. It burned the man's skin and pushed him backwards, which allowed Frieza a running start as he kicked Gohan's legs from beneath him and lowered himself down to give out an elbow strike into his stomach.

The unexpected blow earned a trickle of blood to run down Gohan's mouth, falling down his paled chin, but he ignored the constant throbbing pain and spun around to strike back in return. He managed to dodge another punch from Frieza while also repositioning himself to the Emperor's side, which granted him to opportunity of kicking him in the back and chucking him into the ground.

In response, Frieza glared behind himself before planting his hands into the dirt and using his power to push himself backwards and sticking out both feet, which came into contact with Gohan. The kick was fierce, leaving a terrible bruise on him, but he quickly responded with a powerful grip that latched onto Frieza's tail and spun him around, tossing him away into a nearby mountain range.

Smoke and rubble crashing together into a cacophony of noise and blurring sights, granting a moment for Gohan to catch his breath and wipe the blood from his chin, then focus back on the fight. The Z Fighters remained cautious as a loud scream of rage pierced the air, followed by a sudden blur of movement that reached Gohan's position in an instant.

Frieza had increased his speed rapidly, landing yet another punch into the man's stomach and throwing him into the distance like a ragdoll. Gohan was dragged in the mud with a loud cough of pain, but somehow pulled himself back up. He was bloodied and bruised already, despite their battle only lasting a few minutes, but that did not deter him from proceeding.

Gohan: "*huff*...I m-might need to use... *huff*... a d-different method..."

Frieza: "Hahahaha! What's wrong, monkey? Struggling to catch your breath? Realising the mistake of challenging an emperor?"
