Two weeks went by before Yunjin was finally released from the hospital. If you asked the detective, she should've been home a week ago, if you asked Chaewon she wanted her to stay for another two weeks. Sure Yunjin was healing well and was ready to go home, but they both knew Yunjin sucked at actually following directions. She couldn't be walking around, no strenuous activity, and no intimate time (Yunjin was the most upset about the last one).
While the detective just brushed it off, it was quickly becoming apparent that Chaewon was taking it very, very seriously. That's how Yunjin found herself stuck in her bed, pouting as Chaewon simply walked out of the room after she started whining about helping clean up after dinner. "C'mon, I can just sit down and dry dishes. Please."
"Nope," Chaewon called from down the hall, leaving Yunjin huffing.
She wasn't alone long though, because Eunchae walked into the room as soon as Chaewon left her favorite blue fuzzy blanket and a few stuffies and books Chaewon had given her over time in hand. She smiled in greeting to the kindergartner, Eunchae smiled back climbing up into bed with Yunjin, taking the blanket and carefully laying it on her. Yunjin didn't have the heart to tell Eunchae she was already sweating. Then Eunchae took Peng and placed it on Yunjin's good arm, laying next to her with a good foot between them.
Eunchae was only going to be home today, having convinced Chaewon to let her stay home from school for today only. Eunchae had been missing a lot of school lately between the trial and now Yunjin, she tried to be lenient and let Eunchae come with her to the hospital however she had to put her foot down and say when enough was enough. Eunchae was her little buddy, Yunjin wouldn't mind if she just skipped school to hang out with her. Unfortunately for Yunjin, Chaewon had taken two weeks off to care for her. She was grateful, but Chaewon was paranoid, micromanaging everything Yunjin did right now. She got it, she scared her. It was still a bit annoying.
Eunchae hasn't touched her in a good few days. She accidentally hit Yunjin's shoulder one time, and with all the padding and bandages she didn't feel a thing, but Eunchae noticed. Ever since then she had been terrified of hurting her, Yunjin kept trying to tell her it was okay, that she wouldn't break if she just grabbed her hand, but Eunchae wasn't convinced. "Do you want to read a story? Chaewon reads to me when I go to bed, so if you're here I can do it for you."
"You want to read to me?" Yunjin asked, raising an eyebrow. Eunchae nodded, holding up the book. It was a new one that Chaewon had bought at the hospital gift shop in case Eunchae needed something to calm her down. "Okay."
Detective Penguin solves the case, this had to be Eunchae's third or forth book from that series. The girl settled and held the book so both of them could see. Yunjin relaxed back into her pillows, she was going to enjoy it or at least pretend to.
Yunjin forgot one thing. Eunchae couldn't read.
She was learning, but she was definitely not there yet. That came quickly apparent when Eunchae placed one finger on a word and slowly started to sound it out, "d-e-t-e-c-"
"Detective."
"I was going to get there."
"Go on"
"P-e-n-"
"You know what, how about we just watch a movie instead!"
And that's how they ended up watching Finding Nemo. Yunjin had invested in a Disney Plus subscription because she knew Eunchae (and Chaewon) would love it, and the multicolored fish did a great job from distracting Eunchae from her original task of reading a book. Reading was going to be a Chaewon task, Yunjin didn't have the patience for that. Eunchae watched the movie intensely, getting particularly excited when the sharks got on screen. The detective almost had to laugh every time Eunchae would reach over out of reflex to pull Peng towards her before realizing she wanted Yunjin to use him.
