Kiara is currently at the country club attending one of those fancy parties her parents constantly dragged her to. Standing there next to her parents she was absolutely bored out of her mind. Kiara couldn't lie though; the kook life treated her well. Sure, it involved talking to a bunch of shallow airhead girls and a bunch of guys who were just looking for coke and a quick fuck. And sure, they didn't want to listen to Kiara talk about saving the turtles and how to reduce their carbon footprint. To be fair, the pogues didn't either, but they listened because they loved her. No one here loves her like her boys do. Well, except for Sarah Cameron. Kie's pretty sure she wouldn't have survived her first year at the kook academy without Sarah Cameron.
Kie looked across the room and spotted Sarah standing next to Ward and Rose while they talked to some of Ward's business partners. Sarah felt Kie's eyes on her, she turned her head, stuck her tongue out and started laughing. It made Kie giggle too. Sarah was beautiful and she was the type to dazzle anyone she met. She was Kie's absolute best friend. Her mind started wandering while she was staring off in the distance. That's when she spotted Rafe Cameron walking up. He shook hands with Ward's partners, flashing that sloppy grin he always seemed to have on his face.
Rafe was a devastatingly good-looking guy. Like ridiculously hot...and he just so happened to be Sarah's older brother. Kie knew it was such a cliché to have a crush on your best friends' brother, but it's too late for her. She doesn't even know why she liked him because they barely spoke to one another, and when they did, she had this weird feeling that he was flirting with her. Like the way his eyes lingered on her body just a little too long when she's out at the pool with Sarah. It made her skin tingle with a new desire she'd never felt before.
"Oh! There's the Cameron family, let's go say hi!" Said Kiara's mom. This snapped Kie out of it. Her thoughts were just consumed with Rafe and now here she is walking over to him and his family. She blushed with embarrassment when they briefly locked eyes, it's like he can tell what she was thinking or something. "Hi Mr. Carrera." Rafe said politely, extending his arm for a handshake. He greeted her mother too, all the while she watched him, well more like analyzed him. He definitely had a way with people; it's like he knew exactly what people wanted to hear and he said that. Kiara thought it was because he had severe daddy issues and was always trying to impress Ward. She internally rolled her eyes at the thought.
"Oh yeah, that's our Kiara. Quite the animal rights advocate." Her mom said laughing. Kiara instantly looked up trying to look like she was aware of what was happening in the conversation. That's when she realized that Rafe was the one talking about Kiara. He had told her parents that he admired how passionate Kie was about animals and the environment. "Yeah, last time I took Sarah and Kiara on the boat Kiara insisted on stopping the boat at some beach to look at turtle nests." He says laughing. Her parents equally amused by his story as well. Kiara blushed and looked down. "Hey, I'm into what I'm into" Kie says shrugging, looking directly at Rafe. He raised his eyebrows at her quizzically at her statement. He may have noticed the slight flirting in her tone and that's exactly what she wanted. Kie couldn't take it anymore, she wanted Rafe and there was no hiding it.
The conversation dwindled and Ward excused himself to go talk to his relatives he saw across the way, Rose followed suit. Kiara's parents left as well, walking off towards another couple they were friends with. Kie looked over at Sarah to see her walking over to Topper all googley eyed and lovey dovey. Before she knew it, she realized it was just her and Rafe left standing there. Rafe cleared his throat and looked up at Kiara. "So, how are you Kie?" He said timidly. Kiara stood there for a moment before she answered, realizing how weird this situation really was. "Oh, I'm good Rafe how are you?" She said apprehensively. "Do you maybe want to go get drunk with me? This place is so boring." Rafe said, completely disregarding his earlier question. "Sure, why not Rafe?".
