TW: EXPLICIT AND HAS JJ MAYBANK IN IT! (also AU)

When Kiara had asked JJ if he could help her pack up her college dorm for the semester to go home, he'd of course immediately said yes. The main reason being that she's one of his best friends and he'd always be there when she needed him, but another reason being that he'd had nothing better to do.

It was either apply for a summer job, or drive 10 hours to Pennsylvania to help out his dear friend who he hadn't seen in person in over 5 months, save for the occasional FaceTime calls when she wasn't busy, but that doesn't really count as in person as much as it does in digital.

Kiara asked for help to pack up her dorm to spend her summer at home since all of her friends had already left for their home states and or, summer vacations. Of course, she could've just hired a service, but as she told him over the phone, "Please, J? You're the next trustworthy person to get the job done..." She didn't add this but he knew she wanted to continue with, "The way I want it done."

He knew the girl could be a bit bossy when it came to her personal spaces. She most likely just wanted someone she could boss around without fear of them canceling their help altogether, but it didn't matter, JJ had agreed without a second thought put into it.

If it meant he could withhold the thought of summer work for just a very short elongation, he'd assume it in the blink of an eye.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!!! You're my literal best friend."

First, he informed everyone he knew about his trip so they didn't unknowingly file a missing person report. Second, he packed way too many bags for a less than 72-hour trip, including nearly half his jacket collection.

Third, he went to the gas station and brought a bunch of snacks because what's better for a 10-hour road trip than the most elite gas station snacks? And last but not least, he called Kiara, set the location on his GPS, and set off for his destination.

He ended up arriving 12 hours later, 2 hours more than his estimated arrival time. And he probably would've made the trip in less than 10 hours, if not for him accidentally inputting the wrong directions after a quick restroom and gas refill stop, and then popping a flat in the middle of nowhere.

Ultimately, JJ had no clue how to change a flat and decided to hold out the old hitchhiker's thumb, trying to flag down help for half an hour before getting tired. All thanks to serendipity, a guy named Jimmy in his middle 40's ended up slowing down his pick-up truck, and JJ slipped him a $40 to help him change his tire.

He drove the rest of the way, and by the time he finally reached Pennsylvania, night had fallen, and JJ had to find the nearest hotel since Kiara hadn't been answering her 14 missed calls, assumedly fast asleep.

It was the next morning when JJ woke up to his phone obnoxiously buzzing steadily. The boy groaned, rolling over in his surprisingly cushiony hotel bed. He yawned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes before taking a moment to glance at the caller ID.

Bzzz! Bzzz!

His hand tapped aimlessly at the block of metal for a second before his fingers gained the strength to pick it up fully.

"Kiara <3"

He jolted awake then, quickly swiping right on the call button.

"Good morning." Kiara's soft voice rang out. Even after all these years of knowing each other, he still wondered how she managed to be so vibrant in the mornings. "I literally just woke up, and I cannot apologize enough for not seeing your calls last night."
