A mysterious someone approached the Harano-Uchiha Household, leaping up to an overhanging ledge that adjoined to a certain young woman's bedroom window. They had overcome a few obstacles to get there but no doubt, it was worth it. Crouching up close to the window they gave it a light tap, and a young woman appeared, sliding open the window.
"You're cutting it fine." the emerald-green (contact lenses) eyed, long-black-haired girl said shortly. She wore her hair held back by a plain purple headband, and was dressed in a silky purple top, black mini-skirt over purple tights and black thigh-high boots, as well as a plain black choker to complete the ensemble. And above it all she wore a particularly stern frown on her face. "Hey, I ran into some road-blocks along the way." the ginger-haired, blue-eyed lad answered defensively. He wore a blue jacket over a white shirt, blue torn-jeans and (previously) white sneakers, and bore a sheepish grin on his own face after lowering the hood of his cloak. "My Dad wanted all four of us to go to the Festival tonight. You got no idea how hard it was to get away long enough to make a Shadow-Clone to leave with them. Not to mention waiting for the chance to get my disguise together without my Mom or Sis finding out, and then just getting here without them noticing. The Byakugan's no joke y'know!"
"So I see." the disguised Sarada Uchiha responded unsympathetically as her frown became a wry smile. "And looks like you really thought hard about your look. The makeup really brings out the blue of your eyes." she noted the pasty-covering concealing the whisker-like markings on his cheeks. "Uh, it's Touch-Up, thank you!" the disguised Boruto Uzumaki answered sulkily at her cheeky jab at his masculinity. "And I had to work with what I could get hold of at the time." He held up the bag he'd brought from under the folds of his cloak. "And Hey, I thought I was doing the disguises." He said looking the unfamiliar girl up and down, feeling a little put-out (even as his head tried to deny how cute she was).
"Well, I thought we were preparing our Shadow-Clones together? But it just so happens making one of my own earlier worked out better for me." He had to admit she had him there. "And to be fair, we didn't exactly discuss the finer details of our little escapade before you took off. Aaaaaaaand given my position as Team Captain and your track record with organising yourself... (Boruto continued to sulk)... I figured it would make more sense just to take care of my own get-up. I was going for plausible yet chic. The 'subtly stylish yet I don't care if I'm stylish or not' look. I think I pretty much nailed it, don't you think?"
Sarada finished her self-grandising refrain with a fashionista-style twirl showing off her look and confident swagger. And as much as Boruto wanted to retort at her stealing his Thunder, he had to admit it (at least to himself). It was refreshing to see her not only looking much cooler out of her usual Captain's uniform and high-strung attitude, but also much more girly.
'And like she wasn't already beautiful.' he thought to himself inwardly smiling.
"Oh, and I've already got our cover story. We're visitors from the Land of Glass, which is totally a real place, on a business trip with my Dad who's a glass merchant. He's looking to sell his wares at his stall at the Festival tonight. I'm Renka (A/N: A Japanese girl's first name I pulled from a Google-search which, depending on the kanji characters, can have multiple meanings including 'Fire', 'Beauty', 'Intelligence', 'Lotus Flower' and 'Love'). And you are-"
"Now hold on!" Boruto held up a hand (the one not still holding the bag) and wore an adament frown. "I've come this far with my own get-up, I should get to pick my own fake-name.... I'll be.... Botoru, cause it can mean 'Bottle', and a lot of bottles are made of glass. Like from the 'Land of Glass', y'know?", "And it's also a pretty sloppy anagram of your actual name..." Sarada interrupted, giving an exasperated sigh. "Honestly, sometimes you really are so lazy..."
"Well then, I guess I'm too lazy to get you anything nice to go with your outfit for our practice date..." Boruto turned his nose in the air with mock indignation. Then from elsewhere under his cloak produced a small and beautiful pink flower, and his indignant look became a cocky grin. This was the second flower he'd offered Sarada that day.
"A peony. It represents honour and bravery, right?" she remarked now with a thoughtful expression. Boruto dropped the bag he was carrying on the roof slats beneath him and rubbed the back of his head awkwardly with the free hand, still grinning like an idiot. "Um yeah, well, that's you. Totally. Just like a leader should be. And a future Hokage!!" Sarada looked again from the flower to his eyes and raised an eye brow, even as a red flush crossed her cheeks. "Doesn't it also represent good fortune between a new groom and his prospective bride."
Boruto's grin faltered as he registered Sarada's words and almost fell off his perch on the ledge, blushing hard. "..I... Uh... Um... (sigh).. Okay, for real, I actually didn't know any of that. I just saw it and thought it would look pretty on you." In response Sarada deined not to put down Boruto's limited knowledge of botany and instead accepted the flower graciously, meticulously weaving its stem into her headband. "It's lovely. Thank you." she responded kindly with a smile.
"So, since you won't be needing this... (Boruto indicated the bag with the now-useless disguise he'd brought for Sarada)... It all right if I stash it under your bed?" Sarada finished replacing her headband and shook her head. "No, that's too obvious. I don't wanna take any chances my mom will find it if she comes back early. Hold on! I know the perfect spot!"
With that she took the bag he offered and effortlessly leapt out the window and off the ledge onto the roof top peak. From which she dislodged a loose slat and stowed the bag underneath. Then leapt down again onto the ledge crouching beside the ginger boy. "Shall we then, my Fine Gent?" Sarada asked grandly, snaking her right arm around Boruto's left. "Indeed we shall, M'lady!" he replied with a closed-eyed wide grin, and the two leapt off the ledge and landed neatly on the front porch. Then walked casually off towards the Village Centre with the ravenette's arm still holding tightly on her escort's own. Both buzzing with a mix of anxiety over everything that could go wrong that night, and excitement over everything that could go right.
Neither aware of the trials and tribulations they were about to face. Or the diabolical plot they were about to uncover.
