[Around the same time that night; The Land of Water]
The last of the hundred or so guards along the upper parapets of the stately mansion fell. Knocked out cold by a succession of stealthy chops to the neck. Sasuke Uchiha didn't have time for any drawn-out battles, nor would it have made his mission any easier.
A few days ago the last Elder Uchiha had been in contact with Naruto concerning an suspected bomb threat to Konohagakure. A warning that allegedly implicated suspected members of 'Kara's radicalised followers known as Outers and allegedly would take place during the '5 Great Nations Cross-Cultural Festival' when all five 'kage were expected to be there. Sasuke didn't think it a coincidence that there had been a breakout of the Mujina Bandits' Former Leader Shojoji from Hozuki Castle a few days before then. Or that the Shinobi Prison had received a most prestigious visitor on that same day.
A visitor who was no doubt in this very mansion.
"I've found our way in."
Sasuke's single exposed eye turned from his most recent felled guard to the blue-eyed platinum-blonde kunoichi holding up the hidden door to the secret passageway leading down through the roof. Her irritable frown reminding him of the other reason he wanted to reach his goal as swiftly as possible.
What he knew about Buntan Kurosuki hardly made their joint Covert-Ops mission easier. He was aware she had proven herself a stalwart ally to Konohagakure's Team 7 and Team 5 during Kirigakure's troubles with the infamous Funato Clan. And yet he was also fully aware of the fact the 'New Seventh Ninja Swordsman' had tried to kill his daughter Sarada on her first visit to the Mist Village. She may have been recommended as his contact and guide by the former 4th Mizukage Mei Terumi and with the assurances of the current Mizukage Chojuro and Naruto despite their personal histories with the blonde. But that didn't mean he had to like her.
"And you're sure this route will get us directly to his office without further guard interference?" Sasuke asked shortly, regarding the kunoichi shrewdly as he approached the revealed entrance. Buntan looked back to the entrance without changing her expression. "Months ago, Shizuma, our band and I had been planning on raiding His estate after we'd deposed the 5th Mizukage. I spent so much of that time analysing the layout of the building brick by brick, including the parts people weren't supposed to know about. Funny how we're here now ready to expose Him on the Mizukage's orders, huh...?"
Buntan looked back to the Uchiha with a softer unreadable expression, seemingly inviting him to go in ahead. She might have come a long way in earning Chojuro's trust given their history, but Sasuke didn't trust anyone THAT easily. With an unreadable expression of his own he extended his upturned right (remaining) hand towards the doorway. "Ladies first." he answered the unasked question cautiously. "Such a gentleman." she replied sarcastically with a snarky smile, before stepping into the doorway ahead of him.
.........
The two veteran Shinobi emerged 10 minutes later through a concealed wall panel into a regal and intricately decorated chamber. Before them was a fine pine desk, and a revolving chair in which their target sat with his back to them. Sasuke was about to take the first step when the man spoke. "I knew it was only a matter of time before someone came for me." And he waved his right hand without looking behind him.
Followed by scores of guards armed with swords, pikes and crossbows pouring out of yet more concealed panels in the walls of the chamber, all glaring at the intruders with lethal intent. Yet it took three seconds for Sasuke's Sharingan to activate once the guards met his gaze, rendering most unconscious instantaneously under his Genjutsu. The only two guards there with the strength to resist were promptly pinned to the ground by Buntan holding the flats of her twin blades to their backs. Though it irritated the swordswoman, she was making good on her promise to Chojuro not to kill anyone who got in her way during the mission.
