No way in the seven hells is Ari Grey my new neighbor.

"Miley! We're neighbors," he says, walking up to me.

"Yeah, we are," I reply reluctantly. "Hi, Ari."

"Hey," he says, finally stopping in front of me. Man, he's tall; he's basically towering over me. My phone rings, and I answer it-it's my mum. I forgot my pen case. I tell her I'm outside, and she comes out.

"Ah, chica, I was afraid you were already at school," she says, handing me the pen case.

"Hi, Mrs. Morales."

"Oh, hi! You must be the Greys' son. It's nice to meet you," she says, smiling at him. God, he's probably comparing my mom and me right now.

"Yeah, I'm Ari. Miley and I used to play together when we were younger."

"Ari? Oh, I remember you. You've grown so big and tall." Ari smiles lightly at her. "Didn't you move?"

"Oh, this conversation is obviously going to last a while, and I have to get to school. Bye."

"I could give you a ride since we're going to the same school," he says, emphasizing the word "SAME."

"Oh no, thank you. I'm better off walking. Bye, Ari. Bye, Mama," I say and turn away.

I finally arrive at school and stop by my locker to drop off some stuff.

"Dude, yesterday was so fun," David says, hitting me with her bag. "Ari and I went to the skate park-it was so much fun. You should've come," she whines.

"And do what? Sit on a bench and watch you two skate? Besides, I had stuff to do, David."

"Yeah, like reading boring books."

"They're not boring, and yes, that-plus homework."

"Of course, there's joy in reading words mushed together to make a shitty love story." I roll my eyes at her and shut my locker. David doesn't believe in romance; she'd rather ride her skateboard over the edge of a cliff than fall in love.

"Hey, girls." Oh God, he's here.

"Ari!" David yells excitedly. Jeez, she doesn't sound this excited when she's around me. He looks over at me.

"What?" I ask.

"I'm just wondering why you rejected my offer to give you a ride-twice."

"Twice? Wait, y'all met this morning?" David asks.

"Yeah, we're neighbors."

"Neighbors? Oh, you're the kid we saw the other day. What a coincidence."

"I know, right," I say sarcastically.

"Move, nerd." Gabriella's voice echoes from across the hallway.

"Shit, is that Gabriella?" Ari asks.

"Who else could it be?" David replies.

"She's hot." Wait, what?

"If hot is another word for 'demonic,' then yes, she is very hot." Gabriella spots us and walks towards us.

"Here we go again," I mumble.

"Hey, Fiona. David," she says, her strawberry-scented perfume practically choking me.

"Her royal bitchiness," David says and curtsies.

"Funny, David." She looks over at Ari and smirks. "And who might you be?"

"Ari. Ari Grey."

"Ari Grey? I remember you from preschool. Didn't you move out of town?"

"Isn't that, like, none of your business?" David mumbles.
