Honey's POV
The mushy grass was ivy green stained with mud from all of the changes in the weather recently. Last night, there was a thunderstorm and a downpour of rain that the homeless could've filled a bucket full of water. Actually, I hoped they did. They would have plenty of water to drink from for the week, but where would they get the bucket from? The money they got from begging for money? As long as they got something to drink, that's all that matters.
Kids at my high school joke saying they steal shampoo and soup from shops when it rains so they can actually smell fresh and clean; well others say they jump in the water and never return. I don't understand why people have to be so heartless and cruel. They are human too, why can't we treat each other equally and not judge people based off appearance? Homeless people are human after all but the way others talk about them make them sound like they're aliens from another planet. Sure, they may look and smell different and made bad choices but that doesn't give us a reason to judge. We don't know the whole story of how they got homeless. Things happen in life. Some that cause people their lives. Some that causes people to go homeless.
A bird interrupted my thoughts with its beautiful song well perked up on a branch. Its head tilted when it seen me and I gave the animal a warm smile which it flew off at.
You're probably wondering where I'm going. Mark wanted me to meet his older sibling, Ivy. They have an apartment not far away from the nursing home. It's a ten minute walk. He says he's always been close with them and always went there after work. They're always warm and friendly and offer a safe place where you can talk to them about anything. They're Mark's only sibling but he doesn't mind as they're the best sibling he could ever ask for in his wording. Ivy has always had his back no matter what. When he was getting bullied at school, his older sibling comforted him and guided him through those hard times. They were a best friend to Mark and still is to this very day. They always go out every Tuesday for ice cream, every Thursday for dinner, and every Saturday for a walk. They're that close, but I don't know how I'm going to feel. Will I feel like I'm intruding? Will I just be treated like a background character?
Butterflies filled my stomach and a wave of neurotic washed over me.
Mark sensed this and squeezed my hand. "Don't worry, Ev will love you and is very lovable."
I gulped. "What if... They don't like me?" Arms wrapped around me and swung me back and forth to try and calm me down.
"I like you Honey, I really do." Shocked filled my body.
He likes me?!!
😍
A brown house came into view. A large tree stood out in front and partly covered the window. It was a lighter brown outside with a darker brown trim and roof. White railing was by the stairs, probably for their parents to get up the steps. A large light hung outside and a white door was easy to see from miles away. My feet clicked with each step against the concrete, matching my friend's pace.
I stood there and watched as he rang the doorbell. A women with red, orange, and pink curly hair answered the door. Her pale green eyes were filled with warmness from her smile. "Come on in." she waved us to come in before she shut the door, but that didn't stop her from smiling. Cookies and pastries laid on the table like she was expecting us. He snatched some cookies and I nibbled on the pastry. "Oh, how rude of me. I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Eveline Short but I prefer just Ivy." She nibbled on a cookie.
I smiled. "Honey Lill." I extended my hand out but she curled her fist which I flinched at until she fist bumped me instead which left me staring at her in shock."I thought she was gonna punch me. Phew."
"I'm not much for handshakes; I prefer fist bumps. It's more of a friendly approach." I continue to nibble on my pastry in response.
"She's shy." Mark said as he put a hand on my arm and my face heats up.
"How did he end up liking someone like me? I'm always use to my feelings never being reciprocated because I'm so shy."
I smile slyly.
🤜 🤛
A top lays over top of our heads. A table was in the middle with chairs. Flowers laid on the table with a slide out door. She poured red liquid into her glass and took a sip. He grabbed a pop from the cooler and asked if I wanted anything to drink to which I replied, "Just juice."
She put her lips to the glass and looked at me. "I'm so happy my brother found himself a beautiful girlfriend." I nod and stare at my sweaty hands."Umm... H-h-h-"
"We're not dating. Yet." he winks at me and hands me fruit punch.
"Oh, I thought-"
"We're friends, for now." her lips went into the shape of an O.
I fiddled with my thumbs.
"So," he started. "What are we having for dinner?"
"I thought we would just have pizza-Honey, is that okay with you?" I nod and take a sip of my juice.
🍕
Oh my God... Mhmm, this is the best pizza I've ever had! The meat is so juicy and the cheese is so stringy. Tomato sauce stained my face, making Mark and Ivy laugh.
She whispered something to him which he nodded."Is this homemade pizza?"
"Yes, I made the dough and bought the ingredients." he wiped my face with a napkin and I felt my face heat up as hot as the oven that cooked the pizza. He tucks a strain of hair behind my ear and leans forward.
