I was panicking. They were loading long rifles with bullets. Make and model couldn't tell ya. Bullets, same thing, didn't know. What I did know was this was shocking.
"Guys, does drive-by mean the same thing here as it does everywhere else in the world?" I asked, neither of them stopped loading their weapons
"What's it mean in other parts of the world?" Ru asked, holding the gun up to her eye, checking something, putting it back down again. She cleaned the lens thingy.
"It means you shoot into a house with the intention of hurting someone." I said very calmly, more calmly than I felt anyway.
They both laughed at me like I was dumb. "No way is that what we are doing. We are going to drive over there and shoot blanks at anything, but the house. Blanks won't hurt anything, and we won't aim at anything worth money. It's mainly to interrupt them." Dru told me matter of factly.
"Here. This one's for you. Aim and shoot. But use your good shoulder, or you'll hurt the bad one." Ru told me with a rare smile.
"And I only used air for you for noise. I didn't want any kind of ricochet to hurt your healing process. When you're out, you're out. Do not touch one of these guns and use it because it will do damage. Alright?" She looked serious for the first time ever. I loved this side of her for some reason I couldn't explain. Maybe it was because she was taking care of me in a way people normally didn't.
"Alright." I told her, watching her walk to the truck.
"She's hot when she's bossy." I said, shaking my head at her little wiggle as she walked.
"You're hot when you're watching her. And confused on whether someone's about to die or not." Dru teased, ruffling my hair a little. I should have put it up.
I swatted her hand away and kissed her cheek. "Shut up. You mountain folks are a different breed."
Dru laughed. "It's true we are. Come on, let's do this."
"Who's driving? I want to do it." I asked, following her, meeting every long stride because I was a little taller.
"Uh, me, sweetheart." She said in the huskiest voice I'd ever heard in all my life.
"Oh, God. Do not use that voice on me, Dru. Not until we are all alone behind closed doors, you, Jackass." We'd reached the car, and Dru shrugged, getting into the driver's seat.
"Let me guess. She used her sexy voice on you when you wanted to drive, didn't she?" Ruthie asked from the backseat.
"Yes. It was so rude." I complained, crossing my arms on my chest.
"All's fair in love and games, Sweetie." Ru said with a small wink. "And Dru here likes to play games more than anyone. She will use that voice for driving, food, and......nah. Nope, I'll let that one go. You'll learn in time."
"You better watch it, Shorty. If you're not careful, I'll tell Devan all your secrets, too. Especially the deep, dirty ones that you think I don't know about. That Tammy Sue can't keep quiet about nothing." Dru teased her, causing Ruthie to gasp and fall back into her seat.
"It's true. I bet I know some, too." I didn't, but I was going to play this round.
"Giants are bastards." Ruthie murmured. She didn't kick the back of the seat this time, but she did punch her seat a couple of times, making me laugh. This was fun no matter who you were.

It was fun. Until we pulled up to Miranda's, and my girls started shooting trees, tables, chairs, anything. Anything at all with whatever blanks were. To me, it looked like they were causing damage. It looked and felt like they were breaking things and ruining things.
