After breakfast, I needed a breath of fresh air, so I went outside. It took a long time to persuade the bark guard that I didn't need protection. And even after he left, I was sure that some sort of camera or hidden spy was watching me. For safety purposes.
I ran through the colorful palace gardens, loving the feeling of the wind whipping my face. Blue skies above me and soft clouds below me were a comfort after the conversation at breakfast.
But honestly...that topic had been on my mind for weeks. Mom is getting old. Humans are polluting the Earth. Imagine what an effect that has on Mother Nature.
If humans keep this up...no matter how much I avoid the thought...Mom will die. I will succeed her, take her job and position of Mother Nature.
But...how can I happily be Mother Nature if I'll never see mom again?
I was so caught up in my thoughts I almost ran over...
"TRINA!!!"
"SKY!!!" Trina called back. she ran up to me in a crushing hug.
Trina is my best friend ever. Correction: Trina is my BEST FRIEND EVER!!! Her skin was the color of evergreens, yet her hair was a bright green neon, like her eyes. Her hair was slicked back in a Periwinkle-the-fairy hairstyle, and her dress was the color of red leaf cabbage.
She's always there for me, despite the fact that everyone thinks she's a gold digger--that she's only friends with me because of I'm royal and rich. But I know that's not true. I'm POSITIVE that it's not true.
Trina smiled her quirky smile. "What's up? You're not even looking where you're going; if I had wanted to get run over, I would have called a bulldozer."
I laughed. Trina always has the funniest, weirdest remarks. I'm so glad I ran into her!
"Nothing. Just deep in thought," I replied, my mind wandering to the conversation at breakfast, and Mom's coughing fit.
Trina sighed. "Geez, Sky, you think too much. Sometime, you should try and stop thinking. It's actually a lot of fun. You know what? I'm bored. Let's go do something."
And with that, she ran up the palace gardens...and burst into flight. You see, Trina has little neon green wings on her ankles, and if she runs fast enough, the wings will flap, and she flies. I've always envied her flight power.
"Let's go! What do you want to do? You know what, let's just go. If I think about it too much, I might run over someone," Trina said with a playful smirk.
I laughed again and ran after her as she flew. We eventually came out of the palace gardens and into the town.
Remember how I said there were lots of strange creatures up in the clouds? Going into town will only prove this more. Creatures big, creatures small, creatures of all different colors and species, serpent-like beings, hairy beings, and more. There were lots of them too.
Trina came back down to the ground, and her foot wings stopped flapping. We casually strolled throughout the town, window shopping and talking, until we reached the center of the town.
At the center of the town was an all-plant-made water fountain of ivy, vines, and leaves. The water that flowed out of this great green fountain was pure liquid clouds. It was a simple style, with water shooting up into the air, then falling back down into a pool of water. No one was there except for me and Trina.
I sat down at the base of the fountain, still worried about my mother. Trina, knowing me oh so well, sat down with me. She sat there for a minute, not saying a word, then she turned to me and spoke.
"Sky, are you still fretting over Mother Nature's health?" I didn't reply. Trina sighed, then tried again. "You don't need to worry about her. She may be old, but she's lived for this long, hasn't she?"
"It's all the human's fault," I said quietly. "They need to stop polluting."
Trina closed her eyes and shook her head, and was about to reply when and olive skinned boy, about 10 years old with horns and an eyepatch, threw a rock at Trina. Trina made a quick, sudden movement with her head when she felt the impact of the rock, and her wild green eyes dared the one who threw it to show them self.
The boy with the horns then stuck out his tongue, blew a raspberry, and meanly remarked, "Gold digger! You're only comforting her because she's going to pay you!" Then he added, "I'm talking to you, Trina!"
Trina tried to control her rage as the horned boy ran away laughing. She couldn't do it. She ran as fast as she could, and the neon green wings started flapping. When the boy realized he was being pursued he stopped laughing, and raced away like a deer from a hunter.
Trina started shaking her head as she lowered herself to the ground. She looked strangely defiant as she looked me in the eye and said, "You know, Sky? Sometimes, you have to face your problems head-on."
~Author's Note~
Hi guys! I included a picture of Trina's dress and hair, and a picture of the fountain. ( In the story, every bit of stone in the fountain picture is actually a cloud.)
What do you guys think about Trina? I think she's a good character.
Remember, I always love to read your comments! Don't be afraid to ask questions or leave your opinion out there. I'm even okay with being corrected.
Okay, well, bye!
