Desperate people do desperate things.
And the day after I fought with Trina, I was desperate. Desperate for friendship, desperate for socialization, and desperate to talk to someone other than Miss Crystal.
There was no way I could go back to talk to Trina. Not after my actions. Going to Mom's bedside didn't seem to help. And I loved Miss Crystal like an older sister, but she was often too busy to talk to me. I was so lonely, so...desperate.
And like the saying goes, desperate people do desperate things.
If I wanted to be less lonely, there was only one place I could go, one place that had the mere possibility of a friend. As much as I hated the place...
I had to go to Earth.
I was THAT desperate.
Normally, a creature from the clouds wouldn't survive a trip to Earth. It's like skydiving without a parachute. Instant DEATH.
But something told me I would be alright.
I went to the one balcony in the palace that overlooked the Earth--no clouds to look at, just the earth. I never came to this balcony--it was...a disappointment.
But, it was also one's only way down.
Without a second thought, I swung my legs over the railing of the balcony, and I simply sat there. The cloud land was over some suburbs. It mortified me how humans could destroy beautiful nature only to build desirable homes.
But lots if people lived in the suburbs, right? Lots of people meant lots of potential friends...right?
Friends.
That word was what drove me to push myself off the railing and into the free fall.
As soon as I was falling, I knew I made a mistake.
But I wasn't thinking of mistakes right then. I was more thinking along the lines of: AAAAAHHHH!!! I'M GOING TO FLIPPING DIE!!! SOMEONE HELP!!! Oh, and I was screaming.
I was tumbling through the air, twisting, turning, and screaming.
However, I had to stop. I had to put my great brain to use. So I stood up straight in the air, and thought. I had to think fast, because I WAS PRETTY SURE I WAS GOING TO FLIPPING DIE!!!
My first thought was: Okay. I'm the daughter of Mother Nature. I can control the winds.
I smiled. Too easy.
I processed my fear into--you guessed it--power. I harnessed the power of the winds and created a sort of air "cushion" and soon, I was slowly drifting down to earth.
I relaxed, knowing I was safe. I allowed myself to take slow, deep breaths and take in my surroundings.
It was BEAUTIFUL.
Soft blue skies gave the horizon line a pure look. Under the horizon line were sapphire blue lakes, wildly green pine trees, and soil richer than Bill Gates. And the homes of the humans...didn't look that bad, actually. They seemed to somehow, fit in with the natural surroundings, like a piece in a puzzle. That sight made my hate in humans decline, just a little...
Then I saw some ugly factories in the distance, coughing up thick black smoke, and my hate spiked back up.
As I got closer and closer to the ground below, I got a clear view of where I was landing. It was a driveway, with no one around. That was good. It would be hard to explain how I came out of the sky safely without a parachute.
I gently stepped on the driveway, my winds being snuffed out, and I looked at my surroundings.
Nice neighborhood. Nice house. A strong oak tree. Green grass. Not bad at all...
Until I saw someone sitting in the shade of the oak tree.
I nearly jumped out of my own skin when I saw him...or was it a her? It was hard to tell--it was maybe a six or seven year old kid with no hair. It was just peacefully sitting under the tree, pulling gently at the grass, innocently gazing at me.
I gaped. What was I going to say? How could I explain that I wasn't an alien, or some other all powerful being coming to take over the world?
The kid's small, innocent voice jerked me from my thoughts. "Have you come to take me to heaven?" he asked, so sweetly I had to respond.
"What are you talking about?" I said. "You're just a kid--you have many more years left before anyone comes to take into the next life."
"Oh," said the kid timidly. "I just thought that because, you know, you came from the sky. Angels come from the sky, and angels take people to heaven."
I laughed softly, and walked across the lawn to where the kid was sitting under the oak tree. "Kid," I said, "I am no angel."
The kid smiled, then looked down at the ground, showing more of the exposed, hairless head the kid had.
"What's your name?" I simply asked.
"Drew," he shyly responded. "What's yours?"
"Sky," I replied. Drew smiled. "Nice name for an angel," he said. I laughed, not bothering to correct him.
We then laid on our backs in the soft grass, the sun shining on us through the oak leaves, and chatted.
I liked Drew. He made me feel like I too, was seven years old without a care in the world, with his innocent talk and shy, joyous laughter that only a child could possess.
~Author's Note~
Hi, everyone!!!
Ok, let me set something straight--just because Sky said she liked Drew DOESN'T MEAN she is "in love" with him or any of that jim-jam. It just means she likes him as a person. For those of you who understand that, I applaud you. For the rest of the people out there--be mature, guys.
So I included some quotes about desperation because of course, at the beginning of the chapter, Sky was desperate for a friend. Enjoy!
And, of course, I just have to mention your awesomeness because all of you guys out there are simply AWESOME!!! Bye!
