After another day, Elena lies awake, not getting any sleep all night from what happened at senior prank night, and her alarm rings at 5 am, so she slams her hand down, silencing it and gets up, needing to move around. Elena opens the curtains and moves to her mirror, looking at herself, pushing her hair, when she spots the bite marks on her neck from Stefan the night before and grabs her make-up to cover it as she didn't want Damon to give her his blood. Elena quickly changes into something to work out in and runs into Alaric, who isn't ready for the day. "Good morning," She greets him, but he doesn't reply. He looks at her, suffering from another hangover.

Elena trains in the woods with Alaric, practising on one of his mannequins as he shows her how to stake a Vampire with a sleeve he invented that holds two slim stakes inside. "So the pressure of your punch ejects the stakes," Alaric explains, pointing to the mechanism.

"Easy enough," Elena nods, taking the sleeve and tightening it around her wrist before throwing a sad excuse of a punch, which doesn't set the stakes free. "That's weird," She muses and tries again, but it doesn't work. "Must be jammed or something," She taps on it, but nothing still happens.

"You're not strong enough. Better start lifting some weights; put some meat on your bones," Alaric tells Elena bluntly, shaking his head with a little smirk.

"Thanks for not sugar-coating it," The Doppelganger smirks at him, and he takes something out of his bag, showing it to her.

"You know what this is?" The History Teacher asks her, showing her the sleek black device with a liquid inside.

"A vervain grenade. I've used one before," Elena confirms, looking at it a little smug.

"Then you know the element of surprise is your only advantage when it comes to a Vampire." Alaric tells her, shocking her as he pulls the pin out of the grenade and throws it in Elena's hand. "Surprise."

"Oh my God!" She freaks, throwing it into the air, and the grenade explodes. "This isn't a joke to me, Ric." She turns to him angrily.

"You think I'm joking?" The Vampire Hunter snaps, his dark side rearing its ugly head. "Vampires will take whatever they want. They will hurt whoever they want. And they'll do it without remorse. It's their nature."

"You don't have to use pronouns. You can say 'Stefan'." The brunette teen argues, cooling down.

"Look, I get why you're here. Stefan hurt you. You don't want it to happen again," Alaric warns her, wanting to keep her safe.

"But you think that I'm crazy. To believe that I can protect myself from a Vampire who's flipped to the dark side." Elena argues, mentioning her ex-boyfriend, who has sided with Klaus and Lorilei.
