Lewis smiled looking around. His parents, Fabian, Irma, Susie, Toto, and Jack were all in Adalina's family room. It was the first Christmas that they were all spending together. He had been worried about Adalina hosting everything, but she had insisted that she could do it, and she did.
It had been a lovely morning. It was full of smiles and laughter. Wrapping paper was strewn all around. Roscoe and Braxton were having a great time digging around in it. Jack was having fun playing in the paper along with Roscoe and Braxton. Toto was talking with his parents and Irma while Susie and Adalina were sipping on hot chocolate.
Lewis cleared his throat and clapped his hands, "just wanted to say a few things."
Everyone stopped and looked at him. Adalina smiled at him. He smiled back. He could feel his hands starting to sweat. He made eye contact with his father. He gave him a nod. Lewis took a deep breath.
"Obviously, this is a special Christmas. It's the first one that Lina and I are spending together. But it's also the first one that we're spending with our families, and I know that's something we both are grateful for. I'll forever cherish these memories. And next year, baby girl Hamilton will be here as well. The last month and a half has been such a roller coaster."
"An understatement," Lina laughed.
Lewis laughed as well, "maybe just a little bit. I know that it was a surprise to everyone to find out that Lina and I have been together for almost two years. I'm so lucky to have found such an incredible partner in life. Lina, you're my everything, and I want to be with you forever."
"Lewis," Lina's eyes grew wide.
"So," Lewis pulled out a black velvet box and got down on one knee in front of her, "Adalina Marie Bauer-I love you. Will you marry me?"
"Lewis, yes yes yes! Of course!"
Everyone around them cheered. Lewis slid the ring on Adalina's finger. It was a perfect fit. They both stood up. He pulled her in close and wrapped his arms around her waist. She threw her arms around him, crossing them at the back of his neck. He kissed her deeply. One of Lina's hands went to his cheek.
"Oh my God, Lewis! It's perfect," she grinned looking at her hand.
"It's perfect for you," he kissed her cheek.
"I love you," she grinned.
"I love you too."
One of his hands instinctively went to her stomach. He loved feeling the small bump. He felt incredibly protective of the little girl that was currently growing inside of his fiancée. Lina covered his hand with hers and kissed him again.
"Congratulations!" Susie was the first to pull Adalina away.
Adalina hugged the blonde tightly. Lewis knew that Lina and Susie were best friends. Lina began showing Susie the ring. Susie squealed a little. He watched them with a relaxed smile.
"Congratulations, Lewis," Toto pat him on the shoulder.
"Thank you, Toto," he smiled and gave the other man a quick hug.
"I never wanted Adalina to date one of my drivers, but I am glad she's with you."
"I love her so much, Toto. Thanks for not firing me."
"It crossed my mind," Toto rolled his eyes, "but Ada would hate me forever. Welcome to the family. Officially."
"Thank you."
"And you mean the world to her. I love her like one of my own children. You're a good man, Lewis. I know you'll protect her heart and keep her safe."
"That means a lot to me," Lewis grinned.
Toto squeezed his shoulder before hugging Adalina. Lewis hugged Irma tightly and kissed her cheek before hugging his parents. He knew they were thrilled about the engagement. They had always liked Adalina, and they couldn't wait to meet their newest granddaughter.
Lewis stood next to his father. He smiled and pat his back, "I'm proud of you, Lewis."
"Thanks, Dad."
Lewis watched as Toto hugged Adalina. She showed him the ring. They were talking excitedly in German with Fabian and Irma. Adalina carefully picked up Jack and kissed his cheek.
Looking around at all of the smiles made Lewis happy. He was so glad that this was his life and his family.
