Mordecai Heller was mainly known for being a cold-blooded hatchet man. Despite his weapon of choice being a gun- a pistol.
He stalked throughout the alleyways of St. Louis, eyeing the rum runner trio of Lackadaisy from the alley, as the three wandered towards the entrance. His ear flicked in satisfaction as he watched Rocky Rickaby trail behind the young lovers. Perfect timing.
He quietly stepped out from the alleyway, his tail swishing quietly behind him, and he raised his pistol towards the tabby. "Rocky Rickaby."
Rocky spun around quickly, his fur raising as he tensed. He eyed the pistol that Mordecai held, pointed towards him, and his pupils shrunk.
"O-oh, Mr. Serious Face. Mordecai, was it? To what do I owe the pleasure of such an... Um... Late night visit?" Mordecai watched as Rocky fumbled with his tie, clearly anxious, and on edge.
"So, you know my name then?" Mordecai answered, keeping the pistol where it was.
"Through a friend of a friend. Though, who wouldn't know the name of you? Mr. Atlas May's slasher, isn't it?" Rocky smiled widely, and raised his eyebrows.
Mordecai frowned. How would Rocky know about Atlas? Mordecai had sworn Mitsi to secrecy, and she had promised she wouldn't even mention her husbands murder to anyone, let alone some dim-witted rum runner.
Rocky rocked back and forth on his heels, holding out his suspenders from his shoulders. "Word around the grapevine is that you're not exactly the cream of the crop when it comes to bein' friendly. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're crazier than a can of cricket juice."
Mordecai squinted, and tightened his grip on his pistol. Who did this guy think he was? He was being held at gunpoint, and all he could do was make fun of Mordecai? Did he have no fear? No acknowledgment for consequence?
"I make friends with people who deserve it." He answered. It was the truth, but didn't give too much away. It's better to keep Rocky in his friendly mood. Who knows? For all Mordecai knew, Rocky could have extra sticks of dynamite in his trousers pockets.
Rocky cocked his head to the side, and he smiled a bit. "Who deserves it?"
Mordecai sighed, lowering the pistol a little bit. "Intelligent people. Symmetrical people."
Rocky shuffled towards him, reaching his hand out.
"Rocky! There you are! Who in the devils name are you talkin' to out here in the dark?" Mitsi May opened the door of the Little Daisy Cafe, shouting towards the tabby.
"Oh! Ms. M! A friend or enemy, not sure which one..." Rocky's voice trailed off as he turned around, only to find Mordecai missing from where he once stood.
"Mhm... Let's get you inside, sweetie."
Rocky nodded, his ears drooping, as he followed Misti. "Yeah... Sure..."
