Chapter 20. The First Step

It had been a little over one month since I woke up in the hospital. I could finally feel and move my whole body but I was still weak and had to get support from time to time or else I would stumble over. That is why I got myself a fancy cane. I didn't want to use crutches so I would be seen as vulnerable but also I didn't want it to be too boring, so a fancy gold cane it is. It has also been about a little over a month since the incident between the girls, Mr. Heo and his son, and me. The other girls told me that they managed to flee the scene before the cops came. Ever since that day, no one has ever seen them. It made us all live in constant fear as we didn't know when or where he would be out looking for us to get revenge. That is why Saerom decided that all of us would live in her mansion so that we could be with each other at all times in case something happened. That way we would be able to prevent anything bad from happening. And that is why I'm currently packing all of my stuff or at least the stuff that I know I would have to use. A few hours later I heard a honk from the other, followed by a knock on the door. I made my way to the door and looked through the peephole to be sure that I didn't let any strangers in, and saw that it was just Jiwon, Jisun, and Saerom, so I opened the door for them.

Saerom: Are you packed and ready? Do you need help with loading the bags?

Jahoon: Not really but if we have to get out of here fast then yes.

Jisun: Don't worry Jahoon. We will help you.

Saerom: Don't mention it. You guys help Jahoon with loading the bags into my trunk. I will keep an eye out for any suspicious-looking person.

Jisun and Jiwon nodded and began helping me with loading my bags into Saerom’s car while Saerom was on the lookout. A few minutes later we were all done and already sitting in the car on the way to Saerom's home. I sat in the back of the car and stared out of the window. I couldn't believe what my life had become. It was not long ago that I was living my life completely normally, just graduated and looking for a job. Who knew that finding a single wallet and bringing it back to its rightful owner would lead to this? If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have done it. But then I wouldn't have met Jiwon or any of the other girls. My life has really become messy…hasn't it? I was deep In my thoughts when I felt a hand on my left shoulder. I turned around to see Jiwon looking at me with a worried look.

Jiwon: Are you feeling okay? You were kind of out of it.

I looked at the front of the car and saw the reflection of Jisun and Saerom in the rear mirror. I could tell that they were just as worried. I sighed and shook my head with a small smile.

Jahoon: Don't worry about it. I'm just a little tired since I had to pack and check a few times that I had everything I needed last night. Just some sleep and I will be fine.

Saerom: We still have a long way from home. You can take a quick nap if you want to. We will wake you up when we get there. Then you will be able to sleep a bit more comfortably.

Jiwon: You can lean on me and take a rest if you want to.

Jahoon: Thank you guys.

I carefully leaned against Jiwon’s shoulder as she wrapped her arms around me, cuddling me closer to her. It was only a matter of minutes before I fell asleep.

Jiwon: Jahoon. Wake up. We have arrived.

I was woken up by a gentle shake by Jiwon. I blinked my eyes a few times to adjust my sight. I looked around and saw that we were already at Saerom's mansion.

Jahoon: We arrived?

Jiwon: Yes and the other girls have already taken your bags to your room. Come on, let's go there so you can take a nap more comfortably. It's going to hurt your back if you continue to sleep like this in the car.

I nodded and got out of the car with the help from Jiwon. We walked inside and saw the other girls sitting in the living room watching TV.

Chaeyoung: Looks like the sleeping beauty has already woken up.

Jahoon: You are lucky that I'm still tired and crippled or else I would have beaten your ass by now.

Chaeyoung: And that is why I use this dear opportunity to smack talk you. I know that you in your full power would be able to send me to the moon with just one smack.

Chaeyoung said with a grin on her face. I shook my head. I was too tired to do anything. Jiwon helped me to my room and I changed clothes, preparing for bed. Saerom's house was unbelievably big since each of us got our own room. I walked out of the bathroom and saw Jiwon waiting for me. She was about to leave the room when I stopped her.

Jahoon: Wait! I know that this may be too close to your comfort and that we aren't dating or anything but… can you stay with me?

Jiwon: Like sleeping beside you? Alright, no worries. I will stay with you as long as you want to.

Jiwon smiled and got into bed with me. We laid on our backs awkwardly as neither of us didn't want to make the other uncomfortable. I decided to take the chance and wrap my arms around Jiwon and pull her closer to me. Jiwon looked at me surprised for a second but smiled and ended up cuddling with me back with her head on my chest. A smile appeared on my face. I have never really been this close with anyone before and never had the feeling of wanting to but Jiwon has changed it all. My heart beat faster than it had ever done before.  I have never felt this with anyone… other than Jiwon…

Jahoon: Jiwon…do you have a special someone?... or maybe someone you like?

Jiwon: I'm not seeing anyone right now…I do have someone that I like but they don't know it yet.

Jahoon: Oh… then you should probably tell him soon. You deserve someone who can protect and love you after all that you have done to me and the other girls.

I pulled away from her. She likes someone else. I can't allow myself to get close to her anymore or else I wouldn't be able to stop my feelings for her. A frown appeared on Jiwon’s face.

Jiwon: What is wrong? Why did you pull away like that?

Jahoon: Nothing. It’s just…

I couldn’t finish my sentence. I was already hurt by the fact that she had someone but getting a rejection directly in my face after I tell her is going to hurt me even more. I was about to just turn around and fall asleep when Jiwon pulled me closer to her by my collar and kissed me on the lips. It caught me by surprise. Didn’t she have someone that she loves? Then why is she kissing me like this? Just in the moment that I wanted to push her away, Jiwon pulled away from me so that she could see my face.

Jiwon: I know what you are thinking and that is not right because the one that I love is you. I have liked you for a while now but I was worried that you wouldn’t like me back because of the way that you looked at Gyuri since the first time that you guys met. Even after Gyuri told you that she didn’t want anything to do with you after you got in jail, she was still on your mind. I believed that you loved her and that I would never have a chance with you. Also, I didn’t want to bother and worry you anymore with everything happening right now.

Jahoon: And here I thought that you had someone else in your heart. I have to be honest with you, I did fall for Gyuri at first but the more that I spend time with you guys, the more I realize that I have fallen for you. That is why I pulled away from you before. I didn’t want to get closer to you and have my feelings hurt even more as my feelings for you gradually grew while you were with someone else.

Jiwon: Then neither of us has to worry anymore because the only one that I have in my heart is you.

Jiwon leaned closer to me once again and wrapped her arms around my neck as she kissed me. This time I kissed her back. I glanced at my pinky finger and saw the destiny red string appear from my finger to Jiwon's finger. Although there were a lot of things to worry about right now with Mr. Heo and his son on the loose, it was still nice to have some light in the darkness. After a while we pulled away from each other and ended up falling asleep a few seconds later, calling this the first day of our new relationship.
