Sero knew that if he didn't took a chance he was going to lose it, and all he could do was stand on the side watching someone else take the spot that he never had the courage to take.
And he lost it, he watched his chances disappear as Denki shared the news. "I'm dating Hitoshi!" Denki said as the groups of friends smiled "congrats! We're having an addition to the group" kirishima said.
Jirou chuckled "I guess you lost the bet Mina" she said as mina handed her the money "about time you beat me at a bet" mina replied making jirou laugh a bit.
"I'm happy for you Denks!" Sero spoke, trying to ignore the stinging feeling on his chest. He tried to keep it locked up and pretend it wasn't there, he knew he had to be happy for his friend.
Denki smiled and nodded happily "thanks guys! I can't wait for you guys to get to know him better!" He said in such excitement that Sero couldn't help but to smile.
But once he got home he felt an empty feeling on his chest. Sero sat on the couch as he stared into space letting his thoughts wonder why he took so long, wondering why he let someone else get to Denki before he did.
He sighed and rubbed his eyes already feeling the tears forming in his eyes "he's happy...that's all it matters Hanta...be happy for him" Sero told himself as he got up and went to the kitchen to grab a bottle of whisky before heading to his room.
He tried drinking his feelings away but the feelings only got stronger as the alcohol took effect over his body. That's when the tears couldn't be stopped and where all Sero could do was let his emotions out. He felt overwhelmed at the feeling on his chest and how suddenly he was aware of his own sobs and cries, he was aware of his heart breaking even though he wanted to be positive for Denki's happiness. But he could only be so selfless for so long, he wanted someone to be there for him, to make him feel like he was worth it, but most importantly, he needed someone to make him feel like there was a reason for him to stay alive.
Unlike other times where Sero was drunk, this time he was aware of his unspoken feelings, of all the unpleasant thoughts and emotions he has tried to keep locked up for who knows how long. He was aware of the depression he has tried ignoring by drinking and smoking, he was aware that he had a drug abuse but in his mindset that was better than physically harming himself, he thought that was better than acting on the thoughts that formed on his head.
He knew that eventually he'll manage to bottle up those feelings again, that with time he would lock the feelings he had towards Denki, and it did for a while. Before another news came to make the cage that kept his feelings in place get knocked out.
"Hey guys I wanted to tell you something" Denki spoke looking at the group of friends, unlike last time this time he looked nervous.
"What is it Denks?" Sero asked as he took a hit of the cigarette he had. He noticed how Denki started fiddling but also noticed something else, promise rings, two promise rings.
"We'll you know how I'm dating Hitoshi?" He spoke as the group of friends looked at each other "yeah what about it?" Mina asked.
"We'll around that time I also started dating Neito, remember him? He used to be in Class B, I'm in poly relationship with the two of them" Denki spoke to which the group of friends looked surprised "are you serious? Out of all people you chose that freak?" Bakugo said making Denki frown "are you being serious?" He responded.
"Kami look it's just that, he can be a bit of an asshole sometimes" kirishima said to which Denki let out a scoff "yet when it comes to bakugo that's totally fine?" Denki spoke, bakugo getting out of his seat ready to argue back but was stopped by jirou "Denks look, we mean well, we don't want you to end up hurt because of him" she said.
Denki frowned looking at the group of friends "he changed but you wouldn't know that because you're so quick to judge." Denki said a hint of anger clear on his voice. "Someone like him? There's no way in hell he's changed you're being delusional!" Bakugo said.
Denki frowned even more and simply stood up walking out "what the hell guys!" Sero finally spoke before he went after Denki "hey Denks wait!" He said grabbing his arm to which Denki pulled away "leave me alone" he replied.
"Im happy for you, I'll have a talk with the others that was uncalled for, they had no right to say such things" Sero said making Denki look back at him "so...you're ok with me dating him?" Denki asked.
"If he's making you happy and he's treating you the way you deserve than of course I'm fine with you dating him, I know I barely know him but I would like to get to know him"
Denki smiled and hugged him "you're the best, thanks" he replied and let out a small chuckle "I'm going home but thanks for understanding" he said before he left.
Sero headed back inside taking a few deep breaths feeling his chest tighten a bit by the feeling of rejection.
He looked at the group of friends and sudden anger took over the dreadful feeling he felt a few seconds ago "what the hell is wrong with you guys?! You damn well know that Denki sees us as his family and you all come and say shit that you all know damn well will make him overthink everything!"
"We we're just being honest tape dispenser!" Bakugo replied making Sero roll his eyes.
"sometimes keeping your fucking opinions is more helpful than saying them you know?? Instead of being assholes and judge who Denki wants to be with we should be happy for him, even if the dude is an asshole do you really think Denki would of got with him if he made him feel shitty? Denki's happiness speaks for the dude we have no right to judge him without getting to properly know him" Sero replied trying to control his anger
"Why are you defending them so damn much? Got something to say scotch tape??" Bakugo said as he rolled his eyes.
Sero scoffed "I'm defending him so much because we're the only family he has! You all darn well know the shitty ass family he has! Remember who was there for his graduation?? Us and our parents! His family was no where to be fucking seen! We are all he has and we got to support him got it? He finally found two people he can love and that will love and protect him."
"You're right Hanta, we should of thought about it before being so quick to judge" jirou said before she looked over at the group.
"You guys need to apologize to him and at least pretend to put an effort on wanting to know the guy." Sero said rubbing his eyes "I'm going home."
