from her: (Hey guys! This was QUITE a long one! Hope you enjoy it! *silence* Okay—go ahead and read it already! <3)

Sophie's POV:

"So what do you want to do after school?"

"Who wants to come over to my house?"

"Oh no! I forgot about homework!"

Hundreds of voices echoed around the Foxfire halls—but they were all shushed when Sophie walked in. It was the first day of school after the big battle. They had won, thankfully, and now the Neverseen were defeated. There were casualties though, Sophie and her friends lost close people. Sophie's eyes scanned the crowds. Whispers and accusations spread through them, and she was thoroughly confused—why were they all doing this? Then she spotted her friends, glaring at her.

She walked towards them and was taken aback when Keefe snapped, "Where are you coming?"

Sophie blinked. " I—to be with you guys?" she stuttered.

"You don't deserve to be with us after all the pain you caused us!" Biana yelled. She rolled back her sleeves, flashing her scars from the battle.

"These are all your fault!" Fitz stepped forward, showing his own. "I wish I never found you! Our lives were perfect before you came! Now you ruined it! You failed!"

Sophie's eyes welled with tears, but she fought them back. They weren't wrong. They all glared at her.

"And we were perfectly fine in Exillium but you had to drag us into this!" Tam added quietly—but the words cut deep.

"I wish we were never friends," Dex stated, glaring at her, his once warm eyes now having a steely glint.

But Keefe's words hit the hardest.

"You keep trying to fix everything, but all you really do is make it all worse. You can't be the hero when you're broken, Sophie. I can't believe I ever fell for you—but not anymore. We never want to see you again. And I don't want any connections with you, romantic or otherwise. Get out of my life!"

His eyes crushed the remaining torn pieces of her heart. The same eyes that had looked at her with love and care were looking—glaring—at her with a hatred so deep, so black, she had to tear her eyes from his. She ran as fast and as far as she could from them all.

Screams of hatred called after her. The guilt in her heart weighed her down but she used her home crystal and leaped home. To Havenfield.

As she stepped into the crystal house, a sobbing mess, Grady came out and took one look at her. His eyes hardened.

"What are you doing here?!?" he bellowed.

Sophie was shocked. "This–this is where I live..." she started, but Edaline cut her off.

"No, Sophie," she barked, the words harsher than she'd ever heard them before. "You don't get to run off trying to save the world again, only to come back with all of your friends bruised and broken!"

"You just had to drag Dex into this, too!" Grady added.

Sophie was absolutely speechless at her parents outbursts. Tears rolled heavily down her cheeks as she struggled to find the words. "He wanted to help..." she murmured pathetically.

"I'm sure he didn't want to almost die!" Edaline snapped.

"And what about all of your other friends? What kind of leader drags everyone she cares about into battle? You were nowhere near ready yet—you're a terrible leader, Sophie."
