"Not so sure about that"
The couple turned behind, cold dread coursing through their veins. The voice was eerily familiar. It was a voice they had hoped to never hear. Keefe tightened his grip on Sophie, his face paling rapidly.
" Gethen."
Gethen smirked at them. " Not too happy to see me? Pity. I wonder how you'll handle what you're about to see next." He turned behind nodding, sending a signal to whoever was behind him. Keefe and Sophie stood slowly, anticipating an attack. They braced themselves for the worst but nothing prepared them for what they were about to see next. A figure who was fully cloaked in black stepped out of the shadows. Their hood was on making it impossible for them to see who it was.
Keefe grit his teeth and whispered, " It might be my mom." Sophie shook her head. " She was taller," She pointed out. Keefe gave her a nod, his mind running through a list of people the mysterious person could be. Gethen hinted that the person was someone they knew well. But he could also mean that he had brought someone new in with an extremely powerful ability. His train of thought was interrupted by Sophie squeezing his arm. Gethen nodded again to the mysterious figure and they moved closer. Keefe braced for the worst but nothing he imagined could ever add up to what he saw.
The figure flipped his hood back and Sophie and Keefe inhaled sharply. In unison, they cried out,
" Fitz?"
Neither knew what was happening. Keefe pressed his hand to his stomach while Sophie rubbed the place below her ribs. Betrayal, horror, and anger were mixing inside of them. Fitz smiled at them. It wasn't his normal smile. It was a cruel, wicked smile that threw them both off. "How-how did you? Why did you?" Sophie stammered.
" This world is broken, Sophie. We chose the wrong side. The Black Swan won't help fix it and the Councillors won't do anything about it either. The Neverseen is our only hope. So when they reached out to me, I joined them. I joined them right before the Battle. They helped to fake my death. Join us, Sophie. You too, Keefe. I know deep down, you guys realize it's the right thing to do, but you're too stubborn. You refuse to believe it. Listen to me, guys. Help me help the Neverseen fix this giant mess they created. A mess the Councillors refused to clean." Fitz stated.
Sophie stared at him in shock. She and Keefe shared a look and refused in unison. Gethen sighed. " If you won't stand beside us, you stand in our way." He growled. Fitz stared at him and then faced us, " Which translates to, it's time for you guys to die." Sophie clenched her jaw and reached behind to grab Hope. Keefe grabbed a small dagger from the back of his shirt. There was a small pocket in all his tunics and shirts that allowed him to carry a weapon.
Sophie reached for some Goblin throwing stars and handed some to Keefe. They had all done advanced combat training before the Battle. Gethen transmitted instructions to Fitz while Sophie and Keefe made a plan of their own.
" Keefe, you take on Fitz, I'll go for Gethen," Sophie instructed. Keefe wanted to argue but there was no time. They had to do this. Keefe nodded, reluctantly and turned to face back to Fitz but he was missing. Keefe looked around frantically, searching for Fitz. But Fitz was ahead of him. He slammed into Keefe from behind and knocked him to the sand. Fitz sat on him and punched him but Keefe was quick He rolled over to the side and flipped them so he was on top. This time, Keefe held Fitz's face in one place and punched him. Square in the jaw. They wrestled again and again, kicking and punching each other. Both were bruised up and bleeding.
Keefe knocked Fitz to the floor with a kick and growled, " Traitor." Fitz turned around, his lip bleeding blood trickling down his face and a chunk of his sleeve missing. " I have no hesitation in killing you, Sencen," Fitz grunted, wiping his lips. Keefe scowled at him but calmly stated, " That's the difference between you and me Fitz. I can't just throw away years of friendship as easy as you can." There was a definite tremble in his voice but Fitz didn't notice. The fire in his eyes faded and his shoulders sagged. His grip loosened on his dagger and he looked at Keefe with pleading eyes.
" Understand me, Keefe, please. Teaming up with Neverseen is the only way we can change this broken world." He pleaded. Keefe shook his head and tried to reason with him but Gethen transmitted something that had Fitz throwing a punch to Keefe's face. They both started wrestling again meanwhile Sophie was having her own problems with her battle with Gethen. Gethen was advanced and knew a lot about combat training. He also used a lot of his skills.
He swung his leg and Sophie crouched missing the kick. Instead, she slid her leg under and knocked Gethen off his feet. He fell to the floor but he grabbed Sophie's leg but she managed to steady herself. He tipped her backward and she went crashing to the sand, she felt a sting of pain in her right leg and realized Gethen had stabbed her. She used her dagger and plunged into Gethen's left leg causing him to shriek in pain.
They both got up and engaged in a sword fight. Blocking, attacking, and kicks and punches thrown in, in between the mix. Gethen managed to stab her arm eliciting a sharp gasp and a yelp from her. Keefe heard her and looked up from where he was on the sand, wrestling with Fitz. " Sophie?" He called out, concerned. " I'm...fine!" She called back, gritting her teeth in pain. She stood up shakily and resumed their fight.
~ *time skip cuz I'm in tuition and I can't write detailed rn*~
Sophie staggered towards Keefe, who was lying on the floor next to a motionless Fitz. She clutched her injured and bleeding stomach with her bloody hand. She fell to the floor, desperately hoping she could save him. She plucked a few crumpled Panaked blossoms from her pocket and placed one in both Keefe and Fitz's mouths. She pressed another into Keefe's wounds. She was trying to get him to swallow the petals when he stirred. " Foster?" He choked out. She shushed him, she had very little energy and she had to use it to save both Keefe and Fitz. Pain blossomed everywhere. It shot through her veins and it made her want to curl up and cry.
She had been hurt before but it never hurt like this. It burned so badly and it made her feel so weak. Her vision was getting blurry and she could hardly keep track of all her thoughts. She shook her head, quickly as realisation hit her. He had laced the sword with venom. She only had a few minutes before she blacked out. Working quickly, she made sure Keefe was able to move and do things. The Panakes blossoms had done their job. Keefe's eyes fluttered open.
" Hang on for me, Keefe. I'll get help." She assured him. Keefe's head was bleeding. They were both losing a lot of blood. Fitz stirred and he shot up. He looked around and when he spotted her, he glared. His eyes filled with hatred. " Don't think about rescuing me. I don't want to live in this trash world." And with that, he grabbed the dagger that was lying on the ground and stabbed himself. He fell to the ground and went limp. Sophie was too tired, hurt, and betrayed to do anything.
She used the last of her energy to reach out to Biana and gave her enough details before she felt faint and severed the connection. The last thing she remembered was Keefe's arms wrapping around her before the world went dark.
I'm not sure if I'm making a follow-up chapter. This might be the end. If you want to know what happens next comment. I have no idea where this came from and why it's so ridiculous so.... yeah. I have no idea what I've written. I just know that next, I'll be writing a cute, fluffy Sokeefe oneshot for Nicole! (thx for suggestion)
Bye guys see ya next time.
