~the next morning~

As we rode out of the shire Gandalf would look behind himself, so to ease him I said "I bet ten coins that he'll show," then it went on and on, some bet he wouldn't and those were the one that bet more that they should Gandalf looked at me and smiled. About four hours later just as we were going to cross the shire boarder and into the Wild our little hobbit pulled through. "wait! Wait." Bilbo called after us, we stopped and Thorin, Gandalf and myself turned in our saddles to see Bilbo walking towards Balin, "I signed it. here." He handed it to him, he looked down at the hobbit and smiled while pulling out small spectacles.

"everything appears to be in order." He said cheerfully. "welcome Master Baggins to the company of Thorin Oakenshield." The dwarves chuckled and laughed and Balin winked at Bilbo. Thorin pulled his horse forward and said "give him a pony." "no, no, that won't be necessary." And before he could complain anymore Fili and Kili rode up beside him and put him on a pony. As we rode the dwarves started to pay up their bets me and Gandalf made the most, and at the end when Thorin saw he smirked at me "what? It was to stop Gandalf's worrying." He smiled more.

When we stopped for the night it was in a little alcove, Fili and Kili did fire picket. I sat on the edge of the cliff keeping my eyes on the vast forests making sure that we weren't being followed. And we are, I could see them, and I told Gandalf via telepathically, "Mithrandir we are being followed." I looked at him and he nodded. As I stood watch, Orcs screeched into the night startling Bilbo as he tried to sneak an apple to his horse. Then they screeched again "what was that?" Fili looked up at Bilbo, "Orcs." "Orcs?" he said a bit louder as he walked past a now wide awake Thorin, then Fili and Kili joked badly about Orcs and Thorin scolded them.

But Balin told them not to worry because Thorin has more cause than most to hate Orcs, then he shot into the battle of Moria, but I didn't want to hear it so I blocked it out, but someone sat next to me, when I looked over Thorin was sitting down and staring out into the night sky.

Three more days of traveling and we stopped for the night in a burned down farm house I walked to the burnt frame and Gandalf spoke "I think it would be wiser if we moved on." "Aaralyn, Fili, Kili watch the ponies make sure you stay with them." I was still standing by Gandalf when Thorin came over, "we should make for the hidden valley," Thorin walked in "I told you I will not go near that place." "why not? The elves could help us." "and why not just ask Aaralyn to read the map maybe she'll figure it out." I sighed "I can read and speak dwarfish but the runes on your map Thorin are too old, even for me. I'm sorry." he nodded to me and I left to go with Fili and Kili.

It was around 10 at night when Bilbo came with bowls of stew for us, I took mine so he didn't have to carry so much, but when he handed Fili and Kili theirs they didn't take it because we were still trying to figure out how we could have lost two ponies. I already knew but I wanted them to work their brains a little bit. I knew right away from the smell. "what's the matter?" Bilbo asked Kili, "we're supposed to be looking after the ponies." Kili said still looking at the horses, "only we've encountered a slight problem." Fili finished, then Kili started again "we had 17," "now there's 15."

"Daisy and Bungo are missing." Kili said walking past Bilbo who was still holding the stew I had finished mine and would now be able to move around freely. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a fire light, standing next to the tree that was up rooted I crouched down to get a better look when Fili saw he knelt down next to me, letting the other know "guy's I found a light." I turned to him and he looked at me then with all seriousness I flicked him in the nose and he corrected himself, "Ow! Sorry Aaralyn found a light." The other chuckled we then moved a bit towards it when I said "stay down," they crouched down and lowered their heads.
