The moon cast an ethereal glow through Ashlynn's bedroom window, painting silver streaks across the scattered books and half-written spells on her desk. Bella sat perched on the edge of the bed, her brow furrowed in contemplation.

"Carlisle's invitation," Bella began, her voice barely a whisper. "It's..."

"Crazy?" Ashlynn supplied, her eyes gleaming with a mix of excitement and nervousness. "Intriguing? Terrifying?"

Bella chuckled, a dry, nervous sound. "All of the above, I think. I mean, the Cullen's? The rumored... well, you know..."

Bella sighed, her gaze drifting to the moonlit window. "I know, I know. It's just... I can't shake this feeling. What if they're like the stories, the ones that prey on humans? What if we're walking into a trap?"

Ashlynn squeezed her sister's hand. "Then we'll face it together. We'll be cautious, we'll keep our wits about us, and we'll have each other's backs. Bella let out a shaky laugh, the tension easing from her shoulders. "Sparkle? Really, Ash? You had to go there?"

Ashlynn grinned, her eyes sparkling like the moonlit snow outside. "Someone has to lighten the mood, sis. Besides, who knows? Maybe Edward has a vampire brother with a penchant for glitter. We could call him... Disco Diamond."

Bella snorted, her laughter echoing in the quiet room. "Oh, you're incorrigible. But you're right. We can't let fear rule us. We'll meet the Cullen's, we'll be cautious, and we'll see where the path leads. Together."

The Forks wind whipped my scarlet scarf around my face as I skidded to a stop in my fire-engine red Jeep, tires spitting gravel in Bella's driveway. Inside, she bounced on the balls of her feet, backpack slung over her shoulder, excitement buzzing in the air like a nest of angry wasps. Next to her stood Shane, looking about as thrilled as a wet cat.

"Shane, come on!" Bella cried, flinging the car door open. "We're gonna miss our chance to meet the Cullen's!"

Shane eyed the imposing Victorian mansion at the end of the road, silhouetted against the twilight sky like a Gothic wedding cake frosted with shadows. "Shouldn't we, you know, call first? Or maybe send something like a fruit basket?"
