**Trigger Warning: Child Loss**

Ashlynn's POV

The rain lashed against the windows of their Forks home, mirroring the storm raging inside me. A month had passed since the world had shattered, the dreams we'd held so close slipping through my fingers like grains of sand. Thor, bless his gentle giant soul, had been a rock. But even the strongest rocks show cracks under relentless pressure.

Tonight, the cracks were wider than usual. We sat by the fireplace, the flames casting flickering shadows on the log cabin walls. The silence stretched, thick and heavy, punctuated only by the rhythmic drumming of rain. Finally, Thor spoke.

"Ash, you alright?" His voice was rough, laced with concern. I knew he was asking not just about tonight, but about the ever-present ache in both our hearts.

I let out a shaky breath. "Do you ever wonder if we're being punished?" The words tumbled out, raw and unfiltered.

He turned to me, his blue eyes filled with a pain that mirrored my own. "Punished? Why would you think that?"

"I don't know," I whispered, tears stinging my eyes. "Maybe we're not meant to be parents. Maybe this is... karma for something."

He reached out, his large hand engulfing mine. His touch was warm, grounding, a lifeline in the storm. "Ashlynn," he said, his voice firm but gentle, "listen to me. This isn't about karma or punishment. It's about a twist of fate, a cruel hand dealt by chance. It doesn't define us, doesn't change who we are or how much we love each other, how much we want this."

He was right, of course. But the fear, the raw grief, it clawed at me, a relentless beast. "But what if it happens again, Thor? What if we can't..." I choked on the words, the image of that tiny heartbeat flickering out, too painful to bear.

He pulled me closer, his embrace a silent promise. "We don't know what the future holds, love. But we face it together, hand in hand. And if we try again, if we choose to open our hearts to that possibility, it won't diminish the love we have for the child we lost. It will honor them, keep their memory alive."

His words were a balm, soothing the raw edges of my pain. But the fear still lingered, a cold serpent coiled around my heart. "Are you sure you want this, Thor? To go through this again?"

He cupped my face, his gaze searching mine. "More than anything, Ashlynn. But only if you do too. If even a flicker of hope remains, I want to chase it with you, side by side."

I leaned into his touch, the warmth of his love seeping into my bones. The fear didn't vanish, but it dimmed, pushed aside by a sliver of hope, a fragile ember that flickered to life.

"Okay," I whispered, the word barely audible. "Let's chase that flicker together. But if it goes out again..."

"We'll grieve, my love," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "We'll grieve together, and find strength in each other. But for now, let's hold onto that ember, let it guide us towards a future where our family might grow, where the laughter of children mingles with the sound of the rain."

And so, under the watchful gaze of the storm-wracked sky, we made a promise, not just to each other, but to the tiny soul that had left its mark on our hearts. We wouldn't let fear win. We would hold onto hope, nurture it, and face the unknown, together. The road ahead would be uncertain, paved with tears and laughter, but we would walk it hand in hand, our love a beacon in the storm, guiding us towards a future we couldn't yet see, but dared to dream of.

As the fire crackled and the rain whispered its lullaby, a fragile peace settled over me. The storm outside might rage, but within the embrace of Thor's love, a tiny ember of hope flickered, waiting to be fanned into a flame.
