Chapter 2 - Unusual Territory

Slowly, Y/n wakes up, the light blinds him as his eyes take a moment to adjust, the fine room he's in is a hospital, the equipment, background noise, the plain white and grey tiles give it away. He lies in an uncomfortable bed next to a window shining sunlight into the room, four other patients lie in their various states around the room.

"Aye you're alive." The familiar voice of Nate calls out. He sits on a chair by Y/n's side, a warm smile expressed.
Y/n's head hurts, he tries to remember how he got here but it's all a daze.

"God what happened?" He groans, rubbing his head to soothe an ache.

"You got hit by a car you damn fool." Nate confirms. Y/n senses ease back and he begins to feel some cast confined around his left leg. He lifts up the covers to verify. "That would explain the cast." He huffs.

"It's fractured, luckily it's the only thing, it sounded quite bad when they called me." Nate says.

A moment of silence covers the room.

Y/n sits up, adjusting himself on the pillow.

"The orange juice didn't make it." Nate reports, concerned as if the juice was a dear loved one. "The magazine did though, that's one piece of good news aye?" He celebrates, Y/n just groans and buries his head into his hands.

"I never saw the driver though." Nate pounders, drifting off before he suddenly jumps a bit, like a lightbulb flicked over his head. "Oh!" His brain actually does work. He pulls a scrunched piece of paper from his pocket.
"That reminds me. The nurse gave me this - - the driver left their number."  He hands it to Y/n, sure enough a neatly recorded number is clearly written.

"Great, I look forward to destroying their confidence behind the wheel." Y/n scoffs. "Any idea when I'm able to leave?"

"Um. They didn't say. Only that you've been hit by a car and that crutches are on offer." Nate slowly informs.

"Great..." Y/n whines in exasperation. "Well thanks for coming anyway."

Y/n is discharged from the hospital three hours later. Pushing himself off the ground with his crutches, he leaves the arrival point as fast as he can and swings himself into the passenger seat of his car, with Nate behind the wheel.

The drive back isn't quiet, Nate chats away about some random thing, how he ate a small container of Mayonaise thinking it was yoghurt, he pretty much just talked to himself, while Y/n sulked on his own.

Arriving at home, Y/n limps out of the car and into his room. He sits on the side of his bed and gets out the piece of paper that Nate gave him, contemplating picking up his phone and calling the number. It's not money he wants, it's just an explanation as to what exactly happened and..well, why.

He gathers himself and dials the number. It rings for about ten seconds before the line finally opens.

"Hello." A female voice greets, a slight Australian accent in her tone while also a hint of concern, like she was hesitant to answer. Y/n swears it sounds familiar.

"Hi." He responds. Pausing as he thinks of what to say. "Its....that guy you hit with your car. You gave your number to the - - hospital?"

"Oh yes, right. I'm sorry about - - the whole thing...I hope you're okay." She drifts off, words aren't forming, which is understandable given the circumstances.

"Well my leg isn't but...that doesn't matter, I've got two of those anyway." He says. He'll regret that later. "Anyway though, I thought I would just give you a call, since well, you wrote your number down."

"I don't usually give out my number like this, but 'the guy I hit with my car' gets exclusive access." She jokes, Y/n cracks a smile.

"How did that happen anyway? Did you intentionally drive into me? I don't think I've angered anyone recently, at least, not someone rich enough to hire a hitman?" Y/n asks, keeping the jokes rolling, which seems to work out well when he hears her laugh through the phone.

"I definitely did." She lowers her voice to create a serious tone "Pinpointing your location now." Earning a light laugh from Y/n as she giggles herself. "No but seriously, I am really sorry and if you'd be interested, I would love to meet and apologise properly."

"Oh," Y/n freezes, "you don't just want to sort it out through insurance or..?"

"Ahm, yeah right right, of course we ca-" She says, Y/n realises his stupid mistake and quickly tries to undo it.

"But yes if you want to then...that would be - - that would be great." He flusters, recovering enough to maintain the conversation yet add to his already 'regrettably sentence used' list.

A silence enters the conversation for a few seconds.

"Great well - - there's this really nice cafe, it's a hidden gem really. Called Lily's?" She suggests. A relative hesitation expressed in her voice.

"I haven't heard of that before." Y/n confirms, she responds with a clear scoff.

"What...well then we're going there, no alternatives." She bluntly mocks. "I've been pretty busy but...I can be free by 4 o'clock tomorrow?"

Y/n once again freezes, it's all happening so fast and he's rather caught in a daze, perhaps the mix of drugs and painkillers from the hospital makes it more unpleasant.
"Great - - well - - i'll see you then." He responds. And what fellows is another pause.

"Okay. Good. See you then." She responds.

"Goodbye." Y/n hesitates, a delay in his voice. The line goes silent as the girl hangs up.

Y/n lowers the phone and sits there dumbfounded. It takes him a moment to shake it out of his system and come to the realisation that he is in fact going to a restaurant with...
A: a girl..
And B; a girl that hit him with her car. Life is funny sometimes.

It also gives him time to reflect on what he said,
"Classic. Classic." He mutters, putting his hand to his face.

A day has passed and it's nearing the 4 o'clock mark. Y/n hobbles out of the bus which drops him outside a small and rather deserted street, only a few people walk about. With both crutches in hand, he heads towards the marker on his phone that leads to this hidden cafe.

The cafe hides in a welcoming alleyway, the building has a touch of London history, with its bricks and foundations made of old London bricks. Vegetation seems to hang around parts at the front of the building, vines that look fresh and well maintained. Upon entering the building, Y/n is greeted with a calm and peaceful silence, the place isn't empty, with a few people sitting amongst themselves and playing Pool, but it has this sort of community feel to it, a deeper connection than just a simple cafe.

A waiter greets Y/n and he can only tell him so much. Surprisingly the waiter understands who Y/n referred to when he said "I'm here to meet a woman" because they guide him to a table in a nice quiet corner. Given that he arrived a couple minutes early, he isn't puzzled that she isn't sitting there. He sits down and the waiter gets him a glass of water.

This is crazy - - meeting with the person that nearly killed me, Jesus...
Why not compensate me online, should've just left it, just accepted the apology and walked it off.
Now I'm here..waiting for her so we can have a chat, like, what? No, no, no - - don't think like that this is not a date...

Y/n is lost in his own thoughts before he notices the figure walking towards him.
She wears a casual dress that flows with her elegant figure, her long blonde hair sitting comfortably around her shoulders. A warm smile across her beautiful face, the closer she approaches the more flawless it becomes. And the more recognizable....

Y/n gulps, he's in shock, he knows his mouth is open but he isn't focused on closing it.
"Oh god.." He mumbled under his breath.

Yes, that is in fact the girl he bumped into at the store, and more importantly..

Yes, that is Margot Robbie.
