Uncertain Moments

For the first time in my life I had a choice to make. I stood out there in the moonlight, my eyes darting back and forth between Frankie and Eric. So much had happened this summer and I loved both, differently of course. Frankie was dangerous, wild, carefree. Eric was the opposite. He was predictable, sweet, protective. Each boy brought out a new side of myself and now I had to choose who I wanted to be.

"Reggie, come home with me," Frankie demanded. I learned quickly that he never asked anything, he commanded. Part of me liked that about him.

I bit down on my lip, a nervous tic of mine. A loud clap of thunder caused me to jump. I hated thunderstorms. Right on cue, it began to rain. A nice, calming summer night kind of rain.

"You lied to me. You both lied to me. Why should I waste my time on either one of you?"

Eric shifted his weight from one foot to the other. He kept his hands in his pockets. I looked at Frankie, begging him to say something, to fight for me. He didn't move. Didn't speak.

"Well?"

"Reg, listen to me." Eric stepped forward and took my hands in his. "I'll stand out here in the rain all night if it means you'll give me another chance."

The look in his eyes had broken my heart but Frankie's lack of anything broke me even more. "I need time," I said, then locked the door behind me without giving either one of them another glance.

Leaning back against the door all I could think about was the warmth that flooded my body with Eric's touch. The same warmth that filled me with every kiss from Frankie.
