"Mom" I eventually said, it felt like words were always stuck at my throat whenever I tried to speak.

"Yes?" She replied in her usual monotone way.

"There's this party next Friday— and I don't have practice then so.. can I go?" I explain, feeling my palms become sweaty.

A moment of silence was heard, just the sound of the indicator clicking on and off filled it.

"No."

"But, mom.." I say quietly, trailing off.

"No buts. You're not going, Dae. You're not allowed to go to parties."

".. okay, sorry mom."

"Also, we're going to start a new diet, since you seemed to have magically gained a little. You know you have to maintain your weight."

A little string in my heart pulls.

"Yes, mom."

"You need to stop eating out with your friends, or at least get something healthy to eat."

"Yes, I will do that from now on."

"Good, now, head in— you don't want to waste any time."

"Okay, bye."

I take out my phone as I walk towards the dance studio.
