seven years later

RHAENYRA TARGARYEN has been Queen of the Seven Kingdoms for the last seven years. The Dance ended, and most of the dragons survived. Sunfyre, the dragon of Aegon II Targaryen succumbed to its injuries from the Battle of Rook's Rest, but Aegon never claimed another dragon. He spent his days working to gain Helaena's trust and be a better father. He knew Rhaenyra was serious about sending him to the wall if he slipped up, so he tried his best to not slip up. Tessarion, the she-dragon of Daeron Targaryen also succumbed to its injuries from Vhagar. Daeron was sent to the wall. When he was brought in, he refused to bend the knee to Rhaenyra and cursed her name in front of the court, and since she is not a kinslayer, she sent him to the wall.

Rhaegon, the former mount of Princess Visenya Targaryen also succumbed to the dance during the Battle of Rook's Rest, but Visenya now had another mount. Silverwing, the dragon of the Good Queen Alysanne. For the last seven years, Visenya has been living on Dragonstone with her husband Aemond Targaryen. Visenya was happy in her marriage but took her duty as heir to the throne seriously.

Rhaenyra had taken the words from her great-grandmother, Alysanne Targaryen, that the kingdom needed to see their rulers, and since Rhaenyra did not want any uprisings, she made it a point to visit with each of the Seven Kingdoms once a year to see how things were and if they needed anything. As King-Consort, Daemon went with her. They would spend a month in each kingdom. When they would take these trips, Rhaenyra asked her daughter and Aemond to sit in King's Landing for them. When Rhaenyra was gone, Visenya handled the immediate needs and matters of King's Landing, with Rhaenyra's hand and her grandfather, Corlys Velaryon.

Corlys was the one who originally suggested to her parents when they first started their trips to let Visenya rule in their absence, he promised to give her guidance but also pointed out that it would be a good opportunity for her to learn how to rule the Kingdom for when she takes the throne after Rhaenyra. She and Daemon swiftly agreed and they had been running things like that for the last five years.

Visenya loved their time in King's Landing when her parents would be visiting the Kingdoms; she and Aemond got to spend time with Helaena and the children, and she got to see her siblings, Aegon the Younger, and Joffrey. Aemond would spend time with Aegon. Visenya was slowly coming around to him, she could see that he was doing better, he wasn't drinking as much, he actually looked healthy, and Helaena told her that Aegon was trying with the children, and the two of them were becoming more cordial.

Growing up, they were never close anyway and they were forced to marry each other, now they were trying to get along for their own sake and the sake of their children. And although Visenya did love the time she spent in King's Landing.

Nothing felt better than Dragonstone.

Alicent Hightower was still locked up in King's Landing. The last Visenya heard she had a deep disdain for the color green, she never wore it anymore. The guards could hear her mumbling for her children, but none of them ever visited her. They didn't trust her to not try and manipulate them against Rhaenyra and they didn't want to fall for it. Although Rhaenyra never forbade them from visiting their mother, she said if they wanted to, they could, but they had no desire to.
