Just like that, Monday had come around again. The trio couldn't help but daydream about the upcoming sleepover at Rosalie's house, where they planned to indulge in plenty of movies and junk food. With senior year coming to an end, they were determined to make as many memories as possible in case they didn't all end up at the same college.
Rosalie took her usual seat in Chemistry class, eagerly waiting for August to arrive. Right on time, he walked in with two coffee cups in his hand and a smile on his face.
"Good morning, cupcake," he greeted, sitting beside her.
"I brought you coffee," he said, passing her one of the cups.
"Black coffee with two sugars, just the way you like it," he proudly mentioned, relieved he had finally remembered her order.
A week ago, he would constantly guess wrong when it came to her coffee preference, despite being friends. She had told him before, but his mind always went blank when he tried to order.
"Took you long enough to get it right," she joked, taking a sip of the warm beverage.
"Hey, it's not my fault you have such a unique order," he defended himself.
"It's a simple order and easy to remember," she replied.
"Well, don't worry, I've got it memorized now," he assured her.
"Oh, I have no doubt about that," Rosalie teased, a mischievous gleam in her eyes. "But just to be safe, I think I'll have to test you again next week."
August chuckled, leaning back in his chair. "Challenge accepted, cupcake. I'll prove to you that I've mastered the art of coffee ordering."
As their chemistry teacher began the day's lesson, August couldn't help but sneak glances at Rosalie. Her easy smile and the way her eyes crinkled when she laughed made his heart flutter. He knew they were just friends, but lately, he found himself wanting to be more than that.
"So," he started, trying to sound casual, "any plans for the sleepover? I'm thinking we should definitely watch that new rom-com everyone's been talking about."
Rosalie raised an eyebrow, a playful grin forming on her lips. "Are you suggesting we subject ourselves to your questionable taste in movies, August?"
He feigned offense, placing a hand on his chest dramatically. "My taste in movies is impeccable, thank you very much. Besides, you know you secretly enjoy those cheesy rom-coms."
She laughed, shaking her head. "Fine, we can add it to the list. But only if we balance it out with some action-packed films too."
August grinned, pleased with the compromise. "Deal. We'll have a movie marathon that'll leave us speechless."
Their conversation continued effortlessly, a mix of playful banter and genuine conversation. Rosalie could always count on August to make her smile, his easygoing nature never failing to brighten her day.
As the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, August offered to walk Rosalie home. They fell into step together, their conversation flowing seamlessly as they walked side by side.
"So, what's the game plan for the sleepover, Cupcake? Are we going all out with the snacks, or should I bring pizza?"
Rosalie pretended to ponder, her lips forming a playful pout. "Hmm, I think we can't go wrong with both. A little bit of junk food and a cheesy pizza? Sounds like the perfect combo."
August nodded in agreement, a flirty smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "Well, if we're going all out, I'll have to ensure I bring my A-game. Maybe even whip up some homemade guacamole to impress you."
Rosalie's eyes widened, a mock gasp escaping her. "Homemade guacamole? That's a challenge I'd like to see you conquer, August."
He grinned a glimmer of determination in his eyes. "Consider it done, Cupcake. I'll ensure it's the best guacamole you've ever tasted."
As they reached Rosalie's house, the duo came to a stop by the front porch. August leaned against the railing, his gaze warm and playful.
"You know, I have a feeling this sleepover is going to be epic," he said, his voice laced with a mix of excitement and something deeper.
Rosalie's heart skipped a beat, her cheeks flushing slightly. "I have that feeling too, August. I can't wait."
With a lingering smile, August bid her goodbye and watched as she entered the house. As he walked away, his mind buzzed with the prospect of the sleepover and the chance to create more memories with Rosalie.
