AS I SAW the case that held the tesseract slide across the floor in front of loki, it was like everything was in slow motion. he bent down to grab it frame by frame. lae and i looked at each other with wide eyes and both dived to grab it before the asgardian could. as we both touched the blue block that held the space stone, a cloud of blue surrounded us.
the avengers stood in shock at what had just happened. the twins they had been working with in order to stop the chitauri—and later on: thanos—were gone in the blink of an eye. "what the hell just happened?!" tony exclaimed. he looked at thor. "bring them back!"
thor looked shocked. "i can't."
"what do you mean you can't?" tony asked incredulously. "it's your magic teleporting cube! find them and bring them back!"
"it's not that easy," thor stated. he then started talking about the tesseract, the way it works, what it does, and how he couldn't just magic himself to wherever the twins ended up and magic them all back.
while the avengers were arguing about the logistics of rescuing their twins, lae and i were in a whole other world.
as we looked around the high school, confused and in awe, the blue cube under my arm, a brunette girl approached us. "tee, ellie, we're about to be late for class," she said as she walked up to us, using nicknames we had never been called before.
when i looked at her, memories flooded my mind. seventeen years—give or take a few—of memories. this was elena gilbert, a semi-friend of ours. i was best friends with a girl named caroline forbes. laertes was good friends with elena's brother, jeremy. we were in mystic falls, virginia. we had lived here our entire lives.
i looked over to lae, our eyes meeting. the tesseract had taken us here, and my chaos magic changed reality around our very existence.
