So, the baby is now maybe 1 year old, and this chapter takes place in the middle of the night. Carter is staying at a hotel on the way back from a business conference. Enjoy.
Marie had been asleep, dreaming that her husband was laying next to her, sharing their comforter and holding her in his embrace. The baby was sleeping soundly in her crib, and the cool feeling of the air conditioner had swept through the room on gentle wings. It was a perfect night. The baby hadn't woken up even once to be fed, or changed, or burped. There was nothing bothering Emma tonight.
Marie kept that comfortable thought in mind and smiled at the fact that her husband was coming home tomorrow, and they would all go out to dinner and go for a walk. There was silence in this household, until the sound of something moving across the floor came to her ears.
She shot up from her bed and grabbed her robe, twisting the handle on the door quickly to run downstairs and see what that noise was. Could it be Carter? Was he home? No, he wouldn't he home until noon.
Marie ran to the crib and noticed the door had dropped down unexpectedly. She turned on the lights, and couldn't find the baby. "Oh no." She moved quickly on her feet, shouting loudly, "Emma!" She cried, "Emma sweetie where are you!"
She ran to the living room and turned on the lights. There had been so much clutter in the living room since their trip to the store. They bought so much supplies for the baby, and much of that supplies was still waiting in the living room, unpacked, and creating a maze to run through. Marie was in a state of panic, half tempted to pull her blonde hair out and cry. She couldn't lose her baby.
"Emma!" She called and searched around the boxes. "Emma!"
She almost tripped over some of the boxes, she thought for certain that Emma was safe in her crib. Now she didn't know where the poor girl might have gone. She wasn't in her room; she must've been somewhere else.
Then, there was a loud clatter coming from the kitchen, and Marie jumped upwards trying to catch her heart in the hopes it didn't jump out of her chest.
She ran to the kitchen and found a mobile little baby, messing around in the pots and pans. She seemed to have a grasp on how mobilizing worked; and it was just a matter of time before she'd learn to get up on two legs and walk.
Marie looked around the floor, and she had somehow spilled powdered sugar all over the floor. "Emma, look at the mess you made." Marie laughed as she walked over to Emma's room and set her back down in her crib. All this fuss, all the worries, and she had found her baby crawling around, playing in the kitchen.
Marie ran back to the kitchen and cleaned up the spill. Afterwards she made a list and set it on the coffee table. Tomorrow she was going to clean out everything in the living room and she was going to decide what would stay and what would go. She never wanted to clean up this much in her life. When she lived with her parents she barely wanted to get out of bed, and now she had begun some work on clearing away boxes of unneeded material and carefully placing objects in "To Keep", "To Sell", or "To Trash" boxes.
Once that was done, she rearranged the living room furniture and made another note to find the child safety tools and quickly put them on all the cabinets, doors, and windows. The baby had to be safe if it was going to live in this house.
How was she going to explain any of this to Carter in a way that it would make sense? She'd just have to run him through her plans tomorrow and see if he was on board. Something had to be done about the safety of this house and Emma's crib two.
Once everything was done for the night, a very tired, relieved and protective mother laid on the couch beside her daughters crib and made sure that she would be fine for the rest of the night.
There's still more of this story on the way, I'm hoping that this really makes some people happy. I've been told I write a lot of sad stories, but I'm not going to let this be one of those. So keep reading on. This will be frequently updated.

RandomI'm writing this story for someone I used to love very much. And who I know would just enjoy this story as much as I enjoy writing. She's beautiful, she's amazing, she's everything Carter and Marie have ever wanted. And she's growing up quick...
