It's a lot to handle for Emma, after Ballet, and testing all of the other talents her parents had, she finds she still doesn't have anything she's good at quite yet, but she's willing to work on it. Even if it takes forever.
"Happy Birthday dear Emma!" A joyful crowd sang to her, "Happy Birthday to you!"
Emma felt no need to blow out her candles just yet. Jeremy wasn't here yet. She spent a few seconds stalling, and waiting until Jeremy came back to the party. Once he was there, they blew out the candles together. The party couldn't go on without her best friend. After everyone got their cake and sat down, Emma took an extra piece of cake off the counter and ran outside with it. She sat down on the back porch, overlooking her best friend Buddy.
Jeremy was waiting patiently on the swing set in the back yard, and all of her other guests were inside talking on the couches and watching football. Emma thought about how boring her party was so far. She hadn't had an adventure all day.
Today she was going to set out on an adventure like no one had seen before, and she was going to take Buddy and Jeremy with her. She hoped off the porch and hoofed her way over to Jeremy.
"Guess what we're going to do today!" Emma hollered with a face full of vanilla sprinkle cake.
"What?" He was scared to ask. Last time, Emma wanted to be a lion tamer and he had to play the assistant. Then, in an effort to get Buddy to sit, he ended up on the ground with the dog licking his face and running off with his shoes.
"We're going to be pirates!" Emma laughed as she got on the swing with him. "We can sail across the oceans! We can take treasure from all seven seas! How does that sound?"
"Well, that does sound fun I guess." Jeremy replied.
"Then it's settled! We're pirates now!" Emma announced as she ran through the yard to find her father.
Once she caught his attention she stood proper like a lady should when about to ask a question. "Can we go to the beach daddy." She waited patiently while her father contemplated whether it was a good idea to or not.
He would need to get sunscreen, find beach towels, and see if Emma's party guests wanted to go to the beach with the family. He knelt down to speak with her. "Now, sweetie, why do you want to go to the beach? Your family is here, your friends are here, and they thought they were going to be staying here. Is there any reason we need to go to the beach right now?"
She nodded confidently. Carter thought about it . . . it would take forever to get anyone to get in their cars and go to the beach, but if she had a good reason for it then he might consider it.
"Me and Jeremy are going to be pirates!" She yelled.
Carter started laughing a little. He thought, how adorable, my baby girl wants to be a pirate. Then he turned around and called for Marie, "Honey!"
"Yes dear!" Marie replied.
"Our daughter wants to go to the beach, would you mind putting the cake in the car if we move the party?" Carter asked.
There was a continuous 'awe' sound coming from inside the house. Everyone present thought it was the most precious little thing. His sister-in-law Annie pulled him aside and said, "Oh she is just a handful isn't she?"
"She's got a big imagination. She gets a lot of it from her Mother I'm sure." Carter continued. "She makes up a new adventure every day. Just yesterday her and Buddy were doctors." Carter couldn't be more proud of his little girl. She was acing her classes, and making new friends. All over the school, just like her mother, Emma was the voice of the outcasts, and they were no outcasts to her. They were new adventure buddies.
