Can't always get what you want? Emma feels the same way, and the schoolyard is the least kind to her whims. So Emma and her famous short temper and leading attitude is the least lovable thing about her when playing games.
Emma kicked the ball back to Reed, and he ducked, letting the red ball trail out into the outfield. Emma felt the wind under feet as she ran past Reed with her tongue sticking out. She teased a lot of people on the playground when she had the advantage to. In her eyes, today, and every other day of this week, she was a winner. She wouldn't let anyone forget it either, she was the boss and all were to pay close attention to her.
She ran to second base and almost made it back to third, until Walter threw the ball back and hit her arm. Walter hollered, 'You're out Emma!"
She developed a look on her face that struck fear in him, she was clearly cross; but everyone was in a mood to tell her that she was out and to get back in line. Her team yelled, "She's not out! Emma made it on the base dummy!"
"She's out! I caught her before she even got here."
Outside of the field, everyone else was agreeing with Walter. Emma kicked the sand and took the ball from Walter and bounced it off his head until he fell over. "I made it on base dummy!" Emma had a temper like the devil.
She was always in charge and anyone who said otherwise was wasting time. She stood on base while Walter walked away crying. Emma didn't apologize nor did she feel even a shred of remorse. She just wanted to play her game and she wanted to win. She'd played the game as normal, and on the playground, she was confronted with a brute in a bright pink blouse and a long skirt. She seemed bitter and angry when approached and Emma wasn't scared of her at all.
Behind this behemoth of a woman stood Walter, with a very sad face. He was placing his hand on his forehead and looking at Emma as if he now had a sworn enemy.
"What Ms. Leopold?" Emma asked. She could tell already this wasn't going to be pleasant. Walter was a snitch like no other. He must have gone and complained to her the minute Emma saw him walk off. That wasn't a good sign for anybody.
Emma was a master of the tantrum, and already she was aiming to pick a fight with Ms. Leopold if she even tried to take her to the office. The rest of the playground was halted and they seemed so interested to see how this conversation would end. It seemed like a stand-off at first, and Emma was the Sheriff in the story, waiting to draw and shoot her opponent.
Today, in her mind, she wasn't just a kid with attitude, and playground favorite. She was Sharp Shootin' Sheriff Emma Thomas - and she wasn't going to let Ms. Leopold ruin her day.
"You, me and Walter here are headed down to the principals office, where I'm going to contact your parents." Ms. Leopold said as she grabbed Emma by the arm and dragged her along. Emma tried pulling away and yelling.
She was at a match. There was no way to defeat this enemy. This time her opponent was a mean woman in her thirties who had brute strength and strong will-power. It was the end of the world as Emma knew it. Ms. Leopold was winning and she was going to call in Emma's parents.
"I'll be good I promise! Please don't call Mommy and Daddy! Please! I don't wanna be in trouble! I don't wanna!" Emma stomped her feet and carried on as loudly as she could. She made her voice heard.
"I wish I didn't have to take you to the principals office, but a complaint has been issued and I have enough evidence to sent you to the office. I'm sure both you'll have plenty of time to think of an explanation before your parents arrive." She replied.
