"Why is this line taking so loooonnnggg????" Bumping shoulders with your best friend, Katie, you shuffle your feet as the line leading into the 747 aircraft was moving at a sluggish pace.
"Maybe if you were on time for once we would be able to board with the first class like our tickets say!" She whispers to you.
"Whatever! You know it takes me a long time to look like I don't take a long time to get ready." The two of you bust out laughing causing most of the people around you to turn and look.
As you finally set foot on the plane, she starts to look for the right row she booked for this trip to Cancun. The two of you have been working so hard to get your Masters that she decided to make this last spring break of college one to remember.
You look down at your phone as it lights up with a notification. Another confirmation from a friend that they will be meeting you guys there. You are stopped as you run right into a man trying to put his bag in the overhead compartment.
"Off, sorry." You blurt out, not even looking up from your phone as you reply to the text.
Once you get to your seat Katie keeps staring at you. Finally putting the phone in your lap you look over at her and say "WHAT?!!"
She grabs you by the shoulders shaking you and silently screams "Do you know who you just bumped into?"
"No, why?" Shoving your bag under the seat in front of you, you jump as a phone screen is placed 2 inches from your face.
"HIM!" She squeals.
"Oh, him. Ok?" You push the phone away as the picture of Jeremy Renner is burned into your eyes. Yeah, yeah, just another famous movie star. I'm sure he doesn't need someone fangirling over him on a 5-hour flight to a vacation spot.
"OK? OK!?" She spins in her seat pulling you super close to her. "Were you not the one famously OBSESSED with him just a few months ago?"
Pulling her hands from you, you grab your phone and open the Instagram app to start scrolling and tune her out. After a few minutes of her gushing the flight attendant finally comes up on the intercom to give the safety brief. Putting on your headphones, you lay back and try to tune out all of the upcoming finals you have once you get back.
Once in the air, and two cocktails later, you finally have the need to get up and stretch and find the bathroom. Katie had fallen asleep watching some show on her phone. "Thank GOD!" you say as you get up out of the seat, doing your best to not wake her. You head toward the front of the plane as you think you saw a bathroom on the way in. As you walk past one of the seats you hear a quiet. "Hey there"
You turn to see who said that and are met with a cheesy smile and that same face that was in the picture in front of your face just an hour before. It felt as if your mind froze, and all thoughts just disappeared. "Uh, hi. Did I run into you earlier?"
Now standing awkwardly in the isle of this plane while other people are trying to sleep. He stands up out of his chair, motioning with his arms toward the galley in the front of the plane. Doing your best to not be beat red from embarrassment, you go where he is asking you to.
"Sorry, I don't want to be 'That' guy, who wakes people up on an early flight." He stops in front of the bathroom and folds his hands in front of him.
"I'm so sorry, I was just so wound up from school and I wasn't watching where I was going. I really am so so so sorry!" You face now clearly beat red from embarrassment. You can't even keep eye contact with him.
"Oh, no, no that is fine. You think plane boarding is different because I've been in some movies. I'm human too." A deep throaty chuckle comes from him as a smile pulls at his lips.
"I don't know. I just feel so bad. My friend was making it a big deal about who I ran into and now I feel like a total jackass!" Hanging your head, you try to turn away to go hide in your chair or hell, jump out of this plane to get away from this awkwardness.
You are stopped as a large hand grabs your arm. "Wait!" He calls out.
"Look Mr. Renner, I'm really, very sorry that I may have ruined your trip. I just want to go hide now." You keep your face turned away from him to hide the tear welling up in your right eye. How could you be so stupid.
"Hey, hey, hey...." He gently pulls you around to face him. Worry written all over his rugged face. "I'm not mad. Not by any means." He lets go of your arm and leans back on the bathroom door. "In fact, I was going to ask you what your studying?"
Your mouth drops open as no words even begin to form. I'm sure you made quite a sight just standing there like a mannequin. He chuckles again as you finally blink and realize your mouth is open. Clearing your throat you say, "Film, to put it bluntly. I want to be a director one day."
"Oh! How cool. Have you made any films yet? Like personal ones?" his eyes light up as he stands back up to move out of the way of another passenger needing the bathroom.
"Nothing that is a big deal. Just some stuff for school." You pull out your phone and bring up the file to the black and white short you got an A for last semester. Handing him the phone you step back trying not to be embarrassed by the poor quality of what you thought was a masterpiece.
He hands the phone back to you and pulls his own out of his pocket. "Why don't I get your number and you can send me some of those. I have some connections that would love to see work like this." He hands over his phone and you see a picture of his daughter Ava as the background. It makes you smile a big cheesy smile. You punch in your number and hand it back to him.
"Well, thanks. Y/N. How long are you going to be in Cancun?" He puts his phone back in his pocket and adjusts his jacket.
"Two weeks. We are all having a last hurrah before we graduate." You shove your phone into your pocket trying to not be so lame.
"Ah, well, maybe I'll hit you up in a few days. If that is ok with you?" He leans forward lifting his eyebrow.
"Uhh....Sure!" You blurt out.
"Sounds good. Well, we better get back to our seats before the flight attendants tell us to scram." He winks at you as he walks through the curtains leading to the business class.
You stand there in shock. Did this actually just happen?
Walking back to your seat, you pass him, and he gives you a sweet smile and winks at you again. Causing the blood to flush your face once more, but this time for a completely different reason. You sit back in your seat and hear a ding on your phone. "Gotta love paying for the in-flight wi-fi" Pulling it out Katie wakes up looking at your phone as you open the text.
~Hey, its JR. Thanks for taking the time to speak with me. I'm happy to see any more of your work and pass it on to the right people. Hope to see you in a few days.~
"What?" Squeaks out of Katies mouth. "Ok, what happened in the past hour since I fell asleep?"
"Well, I still need to pee, but I may have just made a new friend." You place the phone in your lap as you buckle back up. Laying your head back as Katie just drones on and on about how and why and what was said. You just sit there with a smile on your face knowing this will be one interesting trip indeed!!!
