It was one of those mornings; you couldn't believe that you had over slept your alarm. Walking into your favorite coffee shop you breathed out a sigh and dropped your head. Of course it was packed! All you wanted was to get your coffee and set up in your favorite booth in the corner and continue to write your novel.
You had been a published author for a few months and your agent was hounding you for the next thing you could give her. The only problem was you had hit a roadblock and nothing was fitting into place.
As the line moved at a snails pace you pulled out your phone and started scrolling through your Instagram feed. After what felt like forever it was finally your turn to order. You told the guy behind the counter your order and moved to the end of the counter waiting for your order to be up. Lost in your phone again you hear your name being called and you reach up for your coffee without taking your eyes off your phone. You turn around and bump into someone as your hot coffee spills all down this person's shirt.
"Oh my God I'm so sorry!" You set the cup down behind you, shoving your phone in your pocket. You grab a handful of napkins as you turn around and your eyes and brain finally realize whom you bumped into. THE Jeremy Renner was standing in front of you with your coffee all over his dark blue shirt. At least it wasn't a suit, but still, you felt so bad.
"It's ok, it is very crowded in here and I wasn't paying attention." His voice chimes in your ears making your heart start beating faster. Your breath was very shallow and you couldn't remember if you had blinked in the past minute.
"No, no, no, I'm really sorry! Can I at least pay for your dry-cleaning?" You are trying to wipe off the coffee from his shirt as you can hear a deep-throated chuckle coming from him.
"It's just a shirt. I have others." His hand grabs yours pulling it away from his chest that your eyes were focused on. "Are you in school?" He points down at your laptop bag hanging off your left shoulder.
"Oh, no. I'm an author actually." You tap your bag then adjust the strap on your shoulder.
His eyes widen as he raises an eyebrow looking down at you. "Oh really? Anything good? I'm always looking for a new novel to stick my nose in on my down time."
You can feel a flush creeping up over your cheeks as you look down at your feet. "Well, I write fictional historic mysteries. I have always had a draw to history and it rolled over into my writing a few years ago." You look back up at him and try to force a smile even though you knew that your works would not interest him.
"Sounds interesting. Not something I would typically read, but I would like to get a sample if you wouldn't mind." He motions to the guy behind the counter to get you a refill.
"Oh, I don't want to take up any more of your time. I'm sure you have other things planned today other than my clumsy ass." You grab the new cup of coffee as you turn your back to him and walk to your corner table in the back.
You sit town and pull out your laptop and take a sip of your coffee before you hear someone clearing their throat next to your table.
"I was serious. Would you let me read a sample from your book?" He was standing there with a slight smirk on his face as you breath out a sigh of defeat.
"Ok, I'll send you my first chapter. What is your email?" You pull up your email and slide the laptop over towards him. "And I'm warning you that once you decide you don't like it, it won't hurt my feelings. I'm not a best seller or anything."
He leans down and types on the keys for a second then straightens back up and chuckles again. "I'm sure it can't be that bad. I've read some really bad things by well known authors."
You turn the laptop back to you and send the email with the first chapter attached. Closing out your email you pull open your new book that you have been working on and stare at the screen.
"Well it's sent. Let me know what you think. And I'm sorry again about your shirt." You cover your face with your right hand trying to hide the embarrassment.
"It's no big deal. And I will, I'll read it on my down time between shoots. It was nice meeting you....I never got your name." He holds out his hand toward you.
"Y/N." You take his hand as he wraps his fingers around your hand. His was significantly bigger than yours. You could feel your hand begin to feel clammy and you wanted to pull it back before he thought you were some weirdo.
"Until we meet again." He smiles down at you, letting your hand go as he turns to walk out of the coffee shop.
Your eyes followed him until he was out of your sight. Looking back down at your laptop you take a deep breath and blow it out through your nose. "How do I work after all that?"
Taking a sip of your coffee you place your hands on your keyboard and start typing.
