A few weeks had passed since you ran into him at that coffee shop you always went to for you inspiration. You hadn't thought anything of him ever replying to you or even reading the chapters you sent to him.
Stepping into the coffee shop on this cold autumn morning, your eyes dart around looking at the lack of customers inside. For a downtown shop it was a ghost town. Taking a step toward the counter you notice that the barista was on his phone as always, never paying attention to what was going on around him.
"Hi, I'd like my usual please." You barely get out as your phone chimes in your back pocket. You pull it out and notice it was an email, before you shove it back into your pocket. Probably your publicist bugging you again for the new chapters, for the tenth time this week. You knew you were behind your deadline, but it was becoming harder to get back into the story since that day.
"Here." The barista hands you your coffee as he goes back to scrolling on his phone.
"Hey, why is it so quiet in here this morning?" You look around behind you trying to figure out why it was so dead.
"I don't know, something is going on up the street. Most of the customers ran out earlier to go see whatever it was." He mumbles, not taking his eyes off the screen in front of him.
"Oh..." You grab the cup and walk back over to the table in the back of the room. Sitting down you pull out your laptop and try to focus on the pages in front of you. Trying your hardest to get something to come to mind, you hear the bell of the door ring as someone opens the front door of the shop. Heavy footsteps start heading your direction, but you keep your eyes focused on the screen in front of you.
A female voice clears their throat to your left causing you to look up. Standing there was a younger woman holding a tablet in one hand and a phone in the other. She was dressed in a pinstriped pantsuit with a bright red blouse under it.
"Miss Y/L/N?" He mousy voice makes you think she was someone's PA, new at the job, obviously.
"That's me, can I help you?" You study her as she fidgets with her phone as it keeps chiming every couple of seconds.
"I need you to come with me." She takes a step back, stretching her arm out toward the front door of the shop.
"Why?" You cock your head to the side raising an eyebrow at her.
"I'm not supposed to say, but Mr. Renner sent me to bring you to him. He is shooting across town and wanted to speak to you." She drops her arm as she frantically types something on her phone.
"Mr. Renner? Ok, I guess." You pack up your laptop and grab your coffee as you follow her out to a black SUV parked at the curb.
She opens the back door escorting you in the car. You slide in as she takes the seat next to you. The driver looks over his right shoulder as she gives him a nod. The car starts to drive off into the busy New York streets as she opens her bag and pulls out a folder. Opening it she pulls out a pen then hands you the folder and the pen.
"I need you to sign this please." She goes back to her phone typing again.
"What's this?" You grab the folder and look at her with a confused look.
"It's an NDA. You will be on a set and we need to know that you understand what you see can not be repeated." She states without looking over at you.
You look down at the paper, scanning the fine print. Typical lawyer mumbo jumbo, but you signed and dated it at the bottom then handed it back to her.
"So, how far is the set? I have other things to be doing today other than driving all over the city." You look out the side window as the skyscrapers started to thin out.
"About thirty minutes, but I was told I needed to bring you as soon as possible." She sets her phone down in her lap, pulling out the tablet scanning what looked like an itinerary.
"I guess I have no choice but to go now." You smirked as she frowns in your direction.
"You do know most girls would kill to be in your shoes right now, right?" She turns to you with that scowl creping over her face.
"I mean I've met famous people before. I am a top 10 best selling author." You smile as the look on her face sours.
"I understand, then you should know this is all formalities." She sits back straight in her chair as her phone began to ring. "Yes sir, She is right here with me...Yes sir, I told her...Yes sir, I know. We will be there shortly." She hangs up the call and sets the phone down in her lap as she picks up the tablet again.
After what seemed like forever the car finally comes to a stop next to a row of travel trailers parked on a side street way outside of town. She opens the door and steps out motioning for you to do the same. She walks you down the row of trailers until she stops you in front of one that had 'JR' on the door.
"In you go. He will be around shortly." She gently pushes you toward the door as you stumble slightly.
"Uh, ok." You reach for the door handle as you pull it open to step inside. A high-pitched bark comes from the other side of the trailer as little patters of feet echo on the floor.
"Don't mind Roxy, she is all bark, but she is a cuddle bug." She turns away as she gets another phone call.
Walking into the trailer you see two little dogs rushing over to you. The white one was the one barking. You recognized them both from his Instagram posts. Roxy was the younger of the two; Hershey was the older darker one keeping its distance. You take a seat on the couch and Roxy jumps up on the couch next to you, sniffing you trying to check you out.
"Hey there cutie." You reach your hand out to her as she cuddles up next to you lading her head in your lap. "Awe, aren't you just the cutest."
"I thought that would be me." That deep raspy voice startles you as you look up to see him standing in the doorway. Wearing a black suit with a white button down. He had some stage make up still on his face, to imitate a fight more than likely.
"She sure is friendly." You reach your hand over and pet Roxy again. She sighs out in contentment.
"So listen, we need to talk...." He sits down on the couch next to you.
Uh oh. What did you do now? You had been so busy with your story that you had not even thought about anything else for the past couple weeks. Nothing was coming to mind, but you got that sickening feeling in your gut like you had said or done something. Either way, you were already there, what did you have to loose?
