Tony pulls up outside a very expensive looking jewellers and I start to panic. I don't want an expensive ring. Something simple yet pretty will do me fine. I'll look but if there's nothing in what I consider a reasonable price range, I'm not getting anything from here.
Tony takes my hand after he's opened the door for me and we walk in there, immediately getting odd looks off the snooty staff. I decide to play my hard faced act on them because they don't have the right to treat either of us like this.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" says one snooty woman with a sneer in her voice.
"I doubt it" I say, my voice strong and proud as I lead Tony over to a cabinet full of rings. There is some beautiful stuff in it but nothing that's me. I look in the next one and one ring does catch my eye but when I look at the price tag - $5,000 - it soon loses my attention. To some that might be cheap but to me it's way too much. I don't need Tony to spend an extortionate amount of money to know he loves me.
The next cabinet doesn't hold out much hope either so I look at Tony and gently shake my head. We turn to leave and I hear the snooty woman whisper something about she knew we wouldn't buy anything.
"It's all too cheap for my liking" I sing out as I pull Tony out of the door, a grin on his face at my cheek.
"Stuck up cow. Who the hell does she think she is?" I mutter as I pull Tony further down the road. We pass a few shops before I spot an antique shop, set back slightly from all the others. Why not try there?
I walk over and start looking through the window when I see it. A ring where the stones have been placed to look like a rose. I smile as I spot it and Tony looks at me.
"It's beautiful" I whisper as I drag him inside the tiny shop.
I tell the shopkeeper what I would like and he fetches it for me, taking it out of the box so I can try it on for size.
I'm amazed when it's a perfect fit and the smile that is on my face gets bigger. As I look more closely I see tiny gem encrusted leaves coming off the band and so much detail in everything about this ring.
"I think Charlie wants this one" Tony says, grinning as he stands behind me and hugs me to him. I look up and nod.
"Yes please" I whisper, not wanting to take it off, which I reluctantly do so the shop keeper can box it back up for us. Tony senses how much I want to keep it on and squeezes my sides slightly.
"Are you ok with me giving it to you in front of everyone else?" he asks, concern in his voice. I turn around so I'm facing him and nod, a smile on my face.
Tony pays and takes the box off the shopkeeper. The ring was $250, much more the price range I was thinking of. We leave after we say our thank you's and head back to the car.
"I think we had better get some food in" Tony says as he starts the car up. I nod and we head to a huge supermarket not too far away. He pulls up there and I follow him as he grabs a trolley - one of the biggest trollies I've ever seen - and we head inside. I have no idea what's sold in here so I just follow Tony as he puts in cereal, snacks and drinks. He looks at me and asks is there anything specific I want. I shake my head and continue following him like a lost puppy. He sees my astonishment at the size of this place and wraps his arm around me.
"It's so much bigger than the local Tesco" I say, laughing. We pick out enough food to last us at least a week and also some party nibbles ready for our engagement party tonight. Tony had asked his family, friends and of course the other guys to come over at 7pm. I glance at my phone and see it's already lunchtime so I tell Tony we need to hurry so I can get everything ready. He nods and kisses me tenderly before we go to pay.
