I take Charlie's hand and lead her to the table set up for us. I am still hyped up on adrenaline. She's my wife now and the smile won't leave my face. I take her hand as we sit down and listen to the speeches that Jaime and Vic have prepared as part of their best man duties.
Mike says he has something to say too and I see Charlie go pale as he stands up.
"Are you ok?" I whisper before he starts speaking and she faintly nods, reaching for a glass of water.
"Tony and Charlie met many years ago when they both started college. Due to circumstances beyond their control, they were out of contact for a very long time but somehow fate found a way to bring them back together. Sadly, Charlie's parents couldn't be here today in body but we all know they're here in spirit and it's because of this that Charlie asked me if I would do her the honour of giving her away today. I want everyone to make a toast to two amazing people and wish them all the best in their married life. You've got yourself a good one there Tony."
We all raise our glasses as instructed and I feel Charlie's hand gently squeeze mine. The guys doing the catering inform us the buffet is ready, so we all make our way to where the food is laid out, picking up plates from the end. Charlie goes first and grabs a few bits. Not enough but maybe she will go back. She goes back to the table, her dress shimmering under the sun that is peeping through the sides of the gazebo. I hastily grab what I want and follow her back. She still looks pale.
"Do you need your pills?" I whisper. She smiles sadly at me and nods. I go to get her bag from James, who said he would look after it, she told me, and as a result I have to walk past Lisa. She gives me a slightly creepy smile so I try not to make direct eye contact with her. I hope she doesn't get drunk and say something.
I hurry back to Charlie and pass her the bag and she quickly takes out the pills she needs at this moment. I kiss her cheek and she smiles at me before gently caressing my cheek.
"I love you Tony" she whispers, making my heart flutter.
"I love you too Charlie" I whisper back, leaning in to kiss her. A tender kiss, filled with love rather than passion.
There is excited chatter as we all finish eating and I lead Charlie to the dance floor for our first dance. She has picked the song and refuses to tell me what her choice is. I pull her to me as the music to Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden starts up. We sway in time to the music as cameras flash and their are cheers as the music ends and I kiss Charlie once again.
She is soon whisked away by James, who is strutting away with her. I dance with my sister first, then my mom before Lisa steps in. I can't exactly tell her to go away while my mom is within ear shot, so I grit my teeth and dance with her, not speaking to her at all.
"You can't deny we didn't have chemistry last night" she eventually says.
"I was drunk. To be honest, I didn't even realise it was you until afterwards. It was a one off thing. Not even a one night stand. Just a brief encounter. It won't be happening again."
She looks angry more than anything and as the music finishes, she flounces off. I shrug my shoulders and turn around to go and find Charlie, bumping into Josh Francesci instead.
"Congratulations mate" he says, a huge grin on his face. We chat for a while before he is distracted by the rest of his band mates, so I look around once again for Charlie. She's dancing with Jaime so I make my way over and twirl her out of his arms, leaving him with his mouth open.
"You might want to shut that sweetie, you'll catch a fly or something" calls out Charlie as I pick her up and spin her around.
"Mike was right. I do have a good one" I whisper as I kiss her softly.
Vic doing that banging on a glass to get everyone's attention makes me turn my head.
" I think the bride and groom need to cut this cake now - I want cake" he calls out, making everyone laugh. I take Charlie's hand and we head over to the table where the beautiful cake is sitting. It seems a shame to have to cut it up but I know plenty of photos were taken of it earlier. We pick up the knife and pose once more for the cameras before slicing into the chocolate buttercream covered sweetness. I take my slice and bite in, getting chocolate all over my lips - yeah, my bad. So I grab Charlie and kiss her, getting her chocolatey too. She squeals before putting some on the end of her finger and poking my nose with it. More photos are taken before we clean up and I lead her back onto the dance floor.
"Tony, I need to pee" she whispers some time later. I kiss her before letting her go. Going to the bathroom I that dress is going to be a challenge so she may need extra time.
I watch as she makes her way out of the gazebo and smile at the thought of her being mine forever.
