I'm pretty sure it must be Tony's mam who's been bad mouthing me but what am I supposed to do? I'm not going to try and drive a wedge between them but I'm so angry and upset. I pull my sunglasses on and lie down, trying to hide my tears and not to let it get to me. I'm so tired and I really want to go home but Tony seems to be having so much fun kicking the ball about with Jaime and her. I bumped into her by the changing rooms. She asked me where I got my bikini from and I told her the name of the shop. She started walking with me, and as I spotted Tony sitting with Jaime and Jess, she started telling me how she was interested in her neighbours son. That she had grown up with him but didn't have feelings for him up until this week. As we got closer to the guys, she got excited and pointed to Tony, telling me he was who she liked and how she thought she stood a chance with him as his new fiancée was some sort of monstrous bitch. That's when my face fell and my heart plummeted into my stomach.
I reach for my bag and a bottle of water as it's pill popping time. I get out what I need and Jess looks on as I swallow the crazy concoction of pills and water.
"Are you ok?" she asks as I put everything back. I smile weakly and nod, not sure if I actually am. I glance over and see Lisa eyeing up Tony. I want to rip her face off right now but I'm not going to. Yet. I feel a hand take mine and see Jess looking at me, looking at the others.
"What did she say to you hun?" she asks so I tell her what I told Tony.
Jess looks shocked.
"She can't be serious? She knows he's engaged to you. No way would Tony cheat anyway. He's been in love with you for so long, he wouldn't just jeopardise that for some girl."
Jess' words reassure me somewhat but it's not Tony I'm worried about. It's her.
I close my eyes again as I lie back down and try no to think about everything. I hear their voices get louder as they head back towards us and I hear Tony say something and her giggle in an over the top way. He sits next to me and takes my hand.
"Hi" I mumble. I feel Tony lie next to me and start tracing the tattoo on my shoulder. I open my eyes and smile as best as I can, not wanting him worrying any more than he is. I roll on my side so I'm facing him and put my hand on his cheek, gently stroking his face with my thumb. He smiles at me and I get butterflies in my stomach. I know he loves me. I really shouldn't be worrying.
Lisa's phone goes off and she informs us the people she was meant to meet have turned up now and she's going. I breath a sigh of relief as Tony says bye. I keep my mouth shut for now and make it plain to see he's my fiancée, not the guy she's going to try and steal, by snuggling up to him. She walks off and I sit up. Tony moves so he's sitting behind me and wraps his arms around me, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"Shall we eat?" he whispers and I nod so he reaches for the cool box. He takes out the food we prepared earlier and there's more than enough for Jaime and Jess too, so we get stuck in. After we've tidied our stuff away, Tony stands and holds his hand out to me. He pulls me up and asks if I want to go for a walk, asking Jess and Jaime if they'll watch our stuff. They agree so I says yes but I put my skirt and t-shirt back on first. He puts his arm around me as we wander along the beach and I feel more at peace than I did an hour ago.
"Charlie, you know I love you, right."
"Yes. Why?"
"I just wanted to make sure you knew. That's all."
I turn to face him and pull his face down to mine, kissing him gently for a minute or so. He smiles against my lips and I know we are going to be ok.
"When shall we get married?" he asks.
I shrug my shoulders.
"Whenever. It doesn't matter to me when we do, as long as we do at some point."
"Let's have a think about it when we get home yeah?"
I nod and we start walking again. We come across Lisa with her friends further up the beach. It looks like she's been drinking as she's definitely louder than she was earlier.
"Tony" she screeches as she spots us. I feel myself tense up as she staggers over, ignoring my presence. Tony's hand squeezes mine reassuringly and I look at him.
" I'm gonna tell your fiancée you're with another woman" she slurs. I look at her, puzzled.
"What are you on about Lisa?" Tony asks.
"She can't be your fiancée. She's nice, not a bitch like your mom said."
She just confirmed my suspicions. Thank you Lisa. I feel Tony tense up at her words. How could he not have realised? He knows his mom despises me.
"Lisa. What exactly did my mom say?"
"That she's a money grabbing whore" she says. I flinch. That hurt. I feel Tony's hand squeeze mine slightly.
"Was anything else said?" he asked, hurt in his voice.
"That she will only hurt you. That she's only with you because you're in a band and that all she wants to do is have sex. And that she's faking her disease to make you be her slave."
I see Tony's face full of anger and hurt. I pull on his arm and try to make him leave that spot but it takes a couple of minutes. I lead him back to where Jess and Jaime are waiting for us and he grabs our stuff up. They look shocked at his anger but I tell Jess I'll text her later to explain. We walk back to the car and he's fuming. He gets in and starts the engine before I've even had chance to open the passenger door and the minute I'm in, he drives off. But not towards home. Towards his mams house.
